MY A VUE D'OEIL

I lay in bed
staring at the ceiling,
thinking of you.
I get the feelings that others
get from drugs,
just by thinking of you.
My a vue d'oeil.
Love is just a word
in English, French, or Mandarin,
and any other language,
but none can capture it.
Yet the feeling is the same
in all of them.
Like a gravitational constant
that draws an orbiting space rock to a moon,
I am enamored with you.
Romance novels have been written
on me and you.
Characters have cried on movie screens
about me and you,
and touched their lips
with a gentility -
and the tenderness-
that can only come
from the kind of love
between me and you.
The same love that resides
between us
as points of feeling
in your heart and mine
is the same love
that existed inside other hearts
hundreds of years ago
as well as in between.
This love has been alive
with no interruptions,
inherited by new lovers
experienced the same way
as the old lovers
simply appearing in different places
and more than one places
at the same time
so that more than one pair of lovers
can experience it at the same time.
Love knows no boundaries
love knows no time,
love is eternal
love is ethereal
love is harmonious
two hearts beating together
in and out of time.
Thump thump,
thump thump,
thump thump,
thump thump.

Listening to letters to Elise by the cure.
The heart beating in and out of time is actually from the song "Behold the Hurricane" by the Horrible Crowes.
I had written another poem with A VUE D'OEIL in it some years ago.
I had forgotten what was in it other than something like "face floats before me".
Having looked it up again (titled "Your face floats before me, my a vue eil."), there is more similarity than I expected.
