LIFE LIVED

The lines of my age
came not only from smiles
but also from tears.
I have lived not only chasing my dreams
but also running from fears.

My sins have not been avarice,
though I have of times known greed.
I have forged a tool from hubris,
and stayed back from conceit.

I have been known to love,
and I have not been known to lust.
I've ever chased the truth
and ever avoided muck.

My gifts to charity have been notable
my faults in business dismissible
my errors in love forgivable
my crimes in friendship forgettable

I have sought to practice benevolence
and always shirked malevolence.

I've seeked to live life well,
and though I've faced challenges,
I still have a smile to tell.

Inspired by wrinkles at corners of my eyes.
My left eye's wrinkles lean down while my right eye's wrinkles lean up.
The poem would probably be the same even if they both leaned the same way.
Originally it was "my smile to tell" though I was not satisfied with that.
I considered using past tense in the first stanza in the form of "I have not only chased my dreams/but also run from fears".
Originally, the first line was "the lines of my face" and that was also the original title.
