LIKE A BIRD ON THE WIND

You say that I can't
come and go from your life
like a bird on the wind
and the leaves on the trees
and that I've got to come or go
and keep it at that,
and not to keep changing my mind
like a bird on the wind,
and I say that I haven't changed my mind
about you in a day in my life
and that I have loved you
for as long as I can remember from
the moment that your eyes met mine
and you smiled,
and my heart skipped a beat,
my pulse skipped a year,
and a year later I was kissing you
and knew that I would love you
for the rest of my life,-
and you say that I've come and gone
like a bird on the wind,
but the truth of the fact is
that I haven't gone a day
in a season, in a moment or a year
without loving you and knowing you and thinking of you
and holding your heart inside my breast
and knowing that I'll love you forever.

10/10/05 one of the best poems I've written.
On Katie. It's actually about a fictional Katie who felt like I kept coming and going from her life (like she did when she was younger, that once), and yet, there may be some truth in it - because it may be that the person that I am, that she knows, (that she loves) has been coming and going.
