I BREAK DOWN IN THE GRASS

I break down in the grass.
and as I look up from my knees
into the rushes,
with the cold wet wind blowing
between their damp reeds
and across my tear-painted face,
past me, off into the rain,

I know that I will not stop,
and will continue with my
knee-soaked jeans
until I find you,-
because today you need me,
so I will not stop.

Inspired by the song "True North" by Meg Hutchinson
After writing, considered putting "today" in italics.
The beauty of the poem is that it's on somebody who already left me 5 years ago.
It's not in the poem though.
But although it occurred to me as I wrote these notes that I could put it into the poem... I don't want to.
I like the poem the way it is.
Somebody who wants to read the poem will have to read the notes first.
