HELPING THE DOWNTRODDEN

If you spend your time helping the downtrodden,
the world will not reward you,
The world will not give you accolades,
If you keep your focus, and plod on,
Shirking the temptation taken by those living life faster,
   more fancifully,
You will have nothing to show for your work.

However, those who came before you
will pat you on the back,
  silently, thankfully,
  even though you cannot feel it.
