Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief, shining moment
That was known as Camelot

The Metamorphosis of King Arthur

One of the most recognizable stories that has survived for thousands of years is that of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Nearly every culture around the modern world can identify the mythic king of England and his seat of power at Camelot. All know the love story of Guinevere and Lancelot, and still many more in this modern world look to the magic and prophecies of Merlin. However familiar the modern reader is with the stories of King Arthur, they only recognize those stories presented through the rosy colored glasses of poets who were enchanted with the ideals of Camelot.
~Except from "The Metamorphosis of King Arthur"~

I feel that I am extremely lucky in that for my Senior Capstone at Southern Oregon University, I have had the opportunity to study and present a topic that I have loved all my life. I have been in love with Arthurian legends since I was extremely young, and like many others I have always been fascinated with the ideals of Camelot and the legends of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. It was an interest that I have always pursued on my own, never given the opportunity to study this particular topic in school. Since entering college I have only studied one of the countless legends of Arthur.

For that reason and many others, I designed a unit aimed at teaching Arthurian legends at a high school level. It is my goal to share my fascination of these legends with students in a way to engage them in the classroom as well as interest them in a classic story that continues to affect modern culture.
