Elegy (A Contemporary Piece).

This is a work in progress. The vision is a musical elegy, similar to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead, and "Jesus of Suburbia" by Green Day. The song explores several different lyrical and musical styles and thought patterns, sort of like a mood swing.

Right now there are four parts, but I want there to be many more. The entire piece is called "Elegy." The subtitle is "A Contemporary Piece," which is meant to emphasize that I am taking a classical type of poetry (the elegy) and modernizing and making it fit modern emotional culture. The piece is meant to be mostly emotional. There a few political undertones so far, which are feministic, but, as of now, I don't plan adding more and making it an attack on American politics or technology or capitalism or any of that jazz. I just want it to explore modern emotional culture, which is more shaped by what we see as appropriate and how we perceive relationships. The piece is meant to be somewhat dark, moody, and meditative, but it is also meant to be hopeful. The character leaves without any more answers than he starts the story with.

The subtitles for each piece represent a strong influence for that particular part of the b. It doesn't necessarily mean that it sounds anything like what the influence is (for example, the average listener probably won't pick up on the Queen influence in Part II). I also plan, at this point, to make one piece devoted to my Mother, whom I loved and still do love very much.

Enjoy! And I really need help with this one, so please e-mail any suggestions to: andrewlargemanjones@yahoo.com
