The Dangerous Dreamer: A Promise A Song Of The Land Elwens As Sung By Soflam Lafoxbane There was a dreamer who thought he could make Dreams real, and shape the world to his like. But he did not know that, for Elwens' sakes, The stars would destroy the work of a shrike. They would not permit the destruction of will, The greatest gift they were ever to give. They destroyed the dreamer and cursed the kill, So that others would obey them if they were to live. But most dangerous of all are dreamers never seen, Whose dreams masquerade under a mask of right. Like the serpent whose scales flash sudden green, All about them looks beautiful and bright. And so the stars never move; soft they shine Above a world where Elwens choose dreamers to lead. They choose to water the plant and harvest the vine, And they choose to plant the seed. When the plant blooms, and its vine kills, Then the Elwens cry for help from stars in vain. Though the stars the upper airs with weeping fill, They will not relieve their children's pain. For they chose that dangerous dream; They chose that enemy in the guise of a friend. They must learn that not all is what it seems; They must wait until the end.
