What's So Special About Alanis?
I've been a fan of Alanis since I first heard her music years ago. In September of 2002, I went to a concert. It's difficult to explain, but it's been a life-changing event for me, as no other live performance ever has.
I am in awe of her. At times her music is lulling, at times comforting, at times emotionally challenging, and at times her songs seem as if they're my own. Sometimes it sounds as if she's read my thoughts and written what I've felt. It [her music]is always powerful.
Alanis is 'real'. At live performances, the performer often will profess his/her 'love' for an audience. Generally, I've thought them to be just words that were said. When Alanis told us (her audience) that she loved us, it felt as though she truly meant it. I could tell she was doing this performance because she wanted to share something with her fans; not just put the money in her pocket and run with it. We meant something to her, as she meant something to us. This was tangible for me, not just something I'd wished or hoped for.
I am grateful to her; for her music, her poetry, and her love. Thanks, Alanis. I love you, too.
