PAYOLA$ - "CHRISTMAS IS COMING"

In 1983 Vancouver's Payola$ followed up their commercially successful album No Stranger To Danger with their fourth studio release, Hammer On A Drum. The album produced four singles, one of which was "Christmas Is Coming". Backed with "I'll Find Another (Who Can Do It Right)", another single from the album, the "Christmas Is Coming" 12 inch single (pictured at right) was released on seasonally festive green vinyl. In 1995, the song was also included on a rock/new wave Christmas compilation CD entitled The Edge Of Christmas, alongside seasonal offerings from such other artists as the Pretenders, Kate Bush, the Ramones and Queen.

STAMPEDERS - "PLAYIN' IN THE BAND"

Drawn from the Stampeders' 1976 album Hit the Road, the single "Playin' In the Band" reached #21 on the RPM chart in Canada, with the album rising to #15. The album's title was derived from the band's highly successful single of the previous year, "Hit the Road Jack" (from the album Steamin'). Other singles from Hit the Road were "Sweet Love Bandit" and "San Diego". "Playin' In the Band" charted the highest of the album's three singles.

EDWARD BEAR - "MASQUERADE"

The single "Masquerade" comes from Edward Bear's 1971 self-titled album, the Toronto band's third and most successful record. Other singles from the album included "Fly Across the Sea" and the #1 charting (in Canada) "Last Song". "Masquerade" is also included on the greatest hits compilation The Edward Bear Collection (1991).
