Topic: New Tab Postings
Lee Aaron's 1987 self-titled album marked a change in direction for her, a departure from her heavy metal roots to a more pop-rock, radio friendly sound. The first single from the album -- the power ballad "Only Human" -- became one of her most successful singles. As it turned out, this entire tab hinged on one individual note. When I first started working on it, I immediately thought the song was played in an alternate tuning. I wasn't positive, though, so it was off to view the video to see if I could find out from that. At first, it didn't seem to be much help, since so little of the guitar playing is shown. But I was able to focus in on one small thing. The video clearly shows that the last note of the opening phrase of the guitar solo is played on the eighth fret of the A string. The only way that note could be played in that spot is if the guitar was tuned down a half step. Case solved, alternate tuning confirmed. (And I was also reasonably convinced that that was correct due to the fact that other well-known Lee Aaron songs are played in Eb tuning.) The rest of the tab followed from that one note.
I also tried something for the first time with this tab. Re-tuning to Eb can be a bit of a hassle, so instead I imported the song into Audacity and raised the pitch by a semi-tone. Brought the song to my guitar's tuning instead of the other way around. It worked out great, saving me a lot of re-tuning time.
