I have to admit that I've sort of come to dislike the Eagles (and that recent "Wal-Mart Only" record release didn't help much). Although I did see Don Henley once, but the opening act was Edie Brickell. Nevertheless, how can anyone not love Joe Walsh? I even saw him as a judge once on the Miss USA pageant. Or something like that. Now that's cool.
Did the Eagles do one of those exclusive one-store-only things? I didn't know that. Yeah, that kind of thing annoys me a bit. I remember a few years back when the Stones did that with their Forty Licks CD (and the DVD, what was it called? Forty Flicks, I think?). And they did one of those exclusivity deals, too. I don't know about elsewhere, but here in Canada you could only get it at Future Shop or Best Buy. Other record chains got so annoyed they actually pulled all of their Stones CDs off the racks for awhile.
I've always been a bit leery about buying my music in Wal-Mart, anyhow, after reading a long time ago about how they operate. I think this is true more in the States than here in Canada, where they don't have quite as much clout. But I used to see/read news stories about how Wal-Mart had editing rights on the records they sold. If they didn't like a record cover, deemed it offensive or something, it would have to be changed before the record could be sold in their store. This is never good, of course, but some of the stuff they said had to be changed was outright ridiculous. The one example I always remember is a John Mellancamp record. I don't remember which one, but apparently on the back cover there's a picture of him with the proverbial little angel over one shoulder and little devil over the other shoulder. And Wal-Mart would only sell it if the little devil was airbrushed out. So people in the States who bought the record in Wal-Mart were getting a compromised version. And if Wal-Mart would get upset about that, imagine what they'd do with some other record sleeves which could reasonably be deemed offensive? So after hearing all about that kind of stuff, even though it wasn't happening here, I'd only buy CDs/DVDs in Wal-Mart if I couldn't find them anywhere else.
But the best Eagles song is "In the City," and surprise! it's a Joe song (at least, he co-wrote it). So get to work on that one Anne, and I might have to dust off my little Marshall practice amp that's been alone in the closet for quite some time now.
"In the city.....oooooo...." How am I doing so far? I swear I can't remember anything after the "oooo", but I do know the song. It's on The Long Run. I'm sure it would come back to me quickly. Oh, wait. "Somewhere out on that horizon, far beyond the neon lights..." That's it, isn't it? I knew it would come to me.
You've left your little Marshall abandoned, alone in a closet for quite some time? That won't do...amp neglect! Get it out right now!
And you're right, there is an abundance of Rush tab out there, and an abundance of it is not so good.
I've never really checked out a lot of it (some, though) so I guess I'm not aware of the overall quality. I am working on one, though.
But a lot of Rush stuff is not as hard as it might seem.
It's not really so much that it's terribly hard, but Rush is one of those bands that -- being a trio -- Alex Lifeson has to fill up a lot of space with the guitar, so plays a very textural style. So I just feel I'd always be second guessing myself, should I tab that as a 4 note chord, or a 5 note chord, or maybe all 6 strings? And it's really not earth shatteringly important, as long as you're basically right, but I've seen the kind of comments people leave on sites like "Ultimate Guitar". They'll freak out over the simplest thing. If someone tabs a G5 where it should be a full G Major, they'll make big pronouncements that the person doesn't know how to play guitar at all.
If that's all it takes to prove yourself a non-guitar player, then I probably proved it long ago! But I've just always had a feeling that with Rush tabs people would be extra picky about perfection.
And I did know that they played on Universal Juveniles, I have a copy of the LP.
"Here we are, here we are....watching the world turn..."
And finally, I once had this Battlestar Galactica playset thing; it was made of cardboard, and I'm pretty sure I sent away for it from cereal. It was made to be like the cockpit of one of the fighter spaceships in the original show.
Alert Vipers launched! Sent away for it from cereal...that's great.
I also had a model of those ships, and a Cylon warrior ship, too. But I got older and blew them up with fireworks one Fourth of July. Cool!
Take that, you frakkin' toasters!
(I'm guessing that all the "frak this", "frak that", and "frak the other thing" was not part of the original show, but was only added for the new show? Even with the alteration of the word, I just can't imagine they would have gotten away with that back in the 70's.)
Now that I'm caught up with the new show, I'll have to find some episodes of the original series to compare.
Now, how about some mandolin tab?
Mandolin tab? My, we are getting demanding now, aren't we?
You mean real mandolin tab for, like, mandolins?
On mandolin tab staff? Not do-able, unfortunately. I don't play mandolin, so couldn't tab it. But there are tabs on the site already of songs that have a lot of mandolin in them, tabbed for guitar. (FM's "Phasors On Stun", Mike Oldfield's "To France")
