Chapter One
It wasn’t long since she had left Santa Fe and it felt good to be with Edward,
not having to worry about a werewolf and a vampire at each other’s throats.
Edward, she smiled as she thought of her friend, as weird as it seemed the
assassin was her closest friend even when she was good friends with Ronnie she
felt that she could not tell her anything but with Edward he seemed to know, but
she did have to admit that he did not like talking about her two boyfriends and
at the moment she didn’t want to either.
His soul mate, ever since he had said those words about her to Olaf they ran
through her mind, she had never thought of him in a romantic way until now and
Edward had told her that it was not romantic from him, he said they were too
alike to be involved but how she loved it when those words came out of his
mouth.
Her only regret now was when they had discussed if they ever had a romantic
thought about the other and they both said no. That had started to change
for Anita ever since she had got back all she could think about was Edward.
She had seen his bare chest and what a nice chest it was but she had started to
wonder how he kissed would he be aggressive of gentle? What would he do
with his hands? Would he know all the spots of where to touch her?
Would he make her body sing? She could see clearly in her mind they way he
handled a weapon he was an expert, an artist. What else would he be expert
at? Those hands cleaning his weapons, so gentle yet so strong. Her
mind created situations, positions. So many things that death could do to her
and she would welcome it.
Anita sighed what the hell was she going to do? Just then the phone rang,
she sighed as it knocked her out of her daydream, wondering where it would have
taken her, would it have gone all the way in her fantasy. Could she
imagine Edward in that way, in her dreams? Her mind was confused but her
heart was screaming yes, yes, yes. The phone continued to ring and she
reached over and picked it up.
“Hello.” She answered her voice slightly breathless.
“Anita, it’s Edward.” Said the sexy male voice on the other side.
Her mind groaned, he was the last person she wanted to talk to; her mind was on
overdrive about him as it was she didn’t need add any more fuel to fan the
flames. His voice going straight through her, it was just adding more
dimensions to her fantasy. That sexy voice whispering what he was going to
do to her in her ear, his breath fluttering across the lobe, his tongue flicking
out and tasting her skin, her body shivering with arousal.
“What’s up Edward?” Her voice came out huskier and sexier than she
meant it too. She coughed.
“Are you all right Anita?” He asked concern in his voice.
“Yeah I’m fine Edward. So what do I owe the pleasure of this call?”
She asked not really sure if she wanted to hear the answer.
“It’s Donna?” He said softly.
Anita waited for him to continue but he didn’t. “What about her?”
She finally asked.
“Well she wants to be ‘just friends with Ted’” He said but didn’t
sound overly upset about it.
“Why did you phone me Edward?” She was not in the mood to play games.
“She is seeing someone else and wants me to go to their party and I could
bring a guest. So how would you like a holiday in Santa Fe? Donna actually
wants you to come so she suggested us going together.” Edward muttered.
“Edward this does not sound like something you would do.”
“It’s not, but everyone knows Ted and it is something he would do.
Please come Anita it would give me someone to talk to and with you there Ted
would get away from all those pity looks and those needy women who want a man,
any man.” Edward said softly.
Anita frowned at the phone he sounded really tired and lonely. Maybe she
was the only real friend he had and she couldn’t let him down now even though
she was worried about how she was going to react when she saw him again, maybe
it would get her over this infatuation, her mind laughed at her.
“Ok when is it?” She asked resignedly.
“In two days how about you come down tonight or tomorrow and we can relax.”
Anita laughed she couldn’t help herself. “Do you know how to relax
Edward?” He chuckled back down the phone and a shiver went right through
her. “I’ll find out what the earliest flight I can get is and call you
back with all the details.”
Death agreed and hung up the phone. Anita dialed the airport and found out
that she could get a plane in 4 hours time. That would give her time to
call Jean-Claude and Richard and let them know where she was going and also time
to pack.
She rang Guilty Pleasures and asked for the Master of the City.
“Ma Petite what do I owe this
honour?” He whispered.
“I’m just phoning to let you know I am going away for a few days.”
She told the vampire keeping her voice as light as she could.
“Where are you going?” Jean-Claude asked his voice suddenly cool.
Anita groaned mentally this was not going to be fun.
“Edward called he has asked me to go to Santa Fe.”
“What does Monsieur Edward wish with you Ma Petite?” Jean-Claude voice
flowed down the phone line and into her veins.
“Just a favour that
is all Edward is my friend and has asked for my help.” Anita’s voice
grew cold; as well she hated this jealousy shit. “I didn’t have to
tell you Jean-Claude I could have just left you know.”
“I am sorry Ma Petite. When are you leaving?” The Master of the
City said.
Anita knew that he didn’t mean it but he knew that getting her angry was going
to make his life miserable. “In 4 hours.”
“Very well how long will you be away for?” His voice drifting off
Anita knew that his attention was on what she was going to be doing in Santa Fe
and with Edward, she hoped that he couldn't sense the need, the want and the
desire that had recently arose within her for Edward.
“A couple of days I am not sure, I’ll phone you and let you know.”
She could hear that he was not a happy vampire this is one of the reasons she
was glad to get away.
