Backround:

A MODEST BEGINNING

A once prosperous cattle rancher would settle into the city of Fangsfall, broken and impoverished. The swift turnabout of life forcing him from his home in Pahrae. A long series of misfortune, from his unwanted "curse" of mystical powers which would abruptly display themselves at the most inopportune time and sometimes drive away potential buyers for his livestock, to thievery and sabatoge. Yet Alric Twilight still stood firm to his livelihood...that is until the government of Calastia finally ended his prosperity, claiming ownership to his long held family farm. Upon arriving in Fangsfall, he found life no easier. The growing city seperating itself from the rule of Calastia, and many of it's residents former victims of the country. He found himself unable to make a home within the city's walls ad wound up with the masses in the ever growing, desolate shanties. It was there he would meet Sarah Kowe, a Madrielite whom had also traveled from Calastia. Although having little herself, she would spend hours of each day volunteering at the city's homeless shelter, preparing meals and tending to the sick. The two would find solace in each other as their time together grew. And would be wed under the faith and blessings of Madriel.

In just a year after being wed, the couple would birth their first child, a daughter whom they would name Aurora. They two were joyous for the birth and believed she was the blessing they had wished for from the goddess. Though times became even more telling. And the needy grew more, the Shnties would grow more each day, death around them constantly as the sick and starving would wittle away, and food became sparce. Sarah Kowe, never denying the call of her goddess would strive still to help those around her, but it became more difficult and her family was also beginning to suffer greatly. Alric would find small jobs in the farms north of the city, plowing fields and tending crops, and would sometimes be gone for days at a time. Making little, taking toll on him and his small family as they continued to struggle. Just before Aurora's first birthday, the two would make a heartbreaking decision. Aurora needed a better life, one that they had struggled to provide, but it was not enough. Taking what little they had, they boarded a ship back to Calastia, leaving their daughter in the care of a well off and trusted friend. Hoping one day to return to their daughter. Upon returning to Fangsfall, Alric had hoped he could make a once again prosperous life for his wife. Wanting nothing more than to reunite her with their daughter he worked tirelessly. She continued in her calling, helping those in need, despite that the two were in great need themselves. Eventually however another otherwise joyous occassion, would come about at the wrong time. Alric discovered his wife to be preganant again with their second child, and although the two embraced the birth, they feared they would now never see Aurora again. This child another daughter, would be named after her mother.....Sarah Twilight would soon become the hope and inspiration for her parents.

Raised with the morals and compassion of Madriel, Sarah would begin helping her mother at a very young age. By the time she was five, she would regularly follow mother about, wanting to help with anything she could. Trying to serve meals to the needy, handing her mother the supplies she needed when tending to the sick. She would brighten the spirits of all those whom she was around. Sarah Kowe believed her daughter would grow to be a great woman of compassion. Alric and Sarah decided never to speak to Sarah of her sister until she was old enough, fearing if they were never able to reunite with Aurora they would only be placing the emptiness and heartache upon her that they had dealt with since giving her up those years ago. Eventually the family would get the greatest of news. Sarah Kowe had been asked to travel north to aid a small village where the small church there did not have the numbers neccesary to care for the sick. This village was also near a land rich in fertile soil and with many farms nearby regularly seeking farmhands. Things were finally looking bright for the family's future. At least it would seem that way for the first few months.....

STOLEN YOUTH

It was night, the only light shining upon the village came from the cloud covered quarter moon above. Sarah was being put to bed by her mother. Suddenly the door to their modest home was flung open. Alric stumbled inside, a few open wounds on his chest.
"Hide quickly....NOW!!" he demanded. Screams and chaos could be heard outside in the near distance. Sarah was hurried out of bed and shuffled off safely into a storage basket, hidden among cloth and crafting material. The small wooven basket just large enough to hold her, and from the tiny cracks in the wicker weave she could see both of her parents. " Stay here and stay quite, alright honey? Your father will let us know when it is safe." her mother assured. And as she secured her daughter she too was to hide. Several hoofbeats could be heard closing in on the home, and came to a sudden stop. Sarah Kowe looked to her husband questioningly as he grabbed a mace from his workbench.

Again the door would swing open, violently. And in stepped two large men. Alric would mutter some chants and hold the mace high in his hands, but it was too late. Sarah's mother would let out a scream as her husband was impaled with a sword. The man continuing to stab him long after his death, having a maniacal orgasmic look in his eyes as he mutilated the smaller man. Sarah held back the urge to cry out from her hidden location, witnessing her father's brutal murder before her very eyes. Her mother would cowar in a corner, sobbing now as the men finally finish dismantling her husband, turning their attention to her now.
"Oh Madriel be merciful and show me comfort in your arms as I pass on from this place....keep my girl....keep her Madriel keep her...." Sarah's mother would repeat this prayer as she stay in the corner, the men approaching and her voice trembling as she held steadfast to the words. Sarah stay quiet in her place as she was told, having to cover her mouth to avoid screaming out as one of the men grabbed her mother by the hair, dragging her towards the family's modest table. Sarah would see the men's faces well as they stood just feet from her. The other man would brandish his battle-axe and hold it high as the other held her mother firmly in position against the table.
"Her blood is his blood, her death is our gift....we reave for him....she bleeds in his name...her blood, this blood......TO THE RAVAGER!" he would scream out as the battle-axe was brought down with a swift motion and such force, instantly beheading her.

Tears would stream down Sarah's face as she witnessed the last few moments of her mother's life, the men would continue to dismantle her as well before finally leaving, imprinting the images of their faces and their path of destruction into the young girl. She would stay hidden long after the sound of hoofbeats had faded, to be sure it was safe. And when she did emerge from her hiding spot, she would fully see the extent of what they had done, both her mother and father's blood covered the small home's interior. And their bodies cleaved beyond recognition. A horrific sight to say the least for an eight year old girl to witness. She ran from her home crying hysterically, looking for someone anyone....but there was silence. She stood there before what was once the small village, now burning and broken. Bodies strewn about on the trails and houses completely destroyed. These men had left destruction and death in their wake, leaving only Sarah behind.
