Welcome to The Id
According to Freud, the id is the deepest layer of our unconscious, the layer driven by emotions and basic survival needs. The id is what causes us to fight, eat, procreate, and do all of the other rash, impulsive things which generally get us into trouble.
I think poetry works the same way.
