Text Box: Anime is a type of animation put together to create a television story. Anime was influenced by manga, which both originated in Japan. Manga is a type of comic style you can read. Anime is similar, but in in animated form so you can watch it. Many manga books also have their own tv show. Anime began at the start of the 20th century. People that enjoyed drawing manga characters made the stories come to life with anime. Many popular anime shows that became a hit for America were shows such as Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z. This is why people assumed anime was for boys. Anime then branched off into different types of storylines other than action/adventure. Love stories, sci-fi, magic, and even horror were developed into many kinds of shows. One of the most popular directors of anime, Hayao Miyazaki, created many hit anime movies. Ones that are especially well-known are ÒCastle in the SkyÓ, ÒKikiÕs Delivery ServiceÓ, ÒSpirited AwayÓ, and his most recent one, ÒPonyoÓ. Since most anime shows and movies are first produced in Japan, they are released for sale sooner. Then they are modified slightly to the American language, so the characterÕs words match their mouths.
