Ballad of the Horsemen

I ~ Beginning

Silence, Darkness then the Earth
God creates life to celebrate birth.
But as all things must someday go
Earth can not stay in life's golden glow.
So the Lord made plan to send,
Four horsemen; knights of the end.
Pestilence, Death, Famine, and War
Bringers of pain, hate, and gore.
Sending the horsemen from his breast,
God hopes mankind will survive this test.
The horsemen come four days, and four nights.
He sits back to see how Man fights.

II ~ War

I come first sweeping the land
you follow the glow of the sword in my hand
Stirring your hearts with greed and hate,
not even the pacifist escape this fate.
Men pick up arms neglecting their family.
As I watch no army dares flee.
Ready to fight, ready to die.
As I watch more widows cry.
My horse over bodies he does glide,
under my helmet I smile wide.
My armor glitters in the setting sun
For I now know the end's begun.

III ~ Famine

I come second, stretching my claw,
I come and take with the destruction of law,
I stir when government in duty lacks.
Hunger and strife I leave as my tracks.
My path has been cleared by him before me.
My clients the starving their pain is my glee.
As around bone flesh does shrink,
help is coming, they hope, they think.
Little do they know the end is near
little do they know they have much to fear.
I turn to face the sinking sun,
For now my part in this is done.

IV ~ Pestilence

I come on the third day, silent and slow.
Cultures stagger blow after blow.
I come joylessly killing as foretold.
Killing the weak, killing the bold.
My minions the rats go and spread,
feelings of horror feelings of dread.
Infections spread across the land.
Living flesh rotting under my hand.
I attack, my power relentless.
I attack the people all hopeless
I sit back to watch the rising moon
knowing everything will be over soon.

V ~ Death

I come last, at last I come
taking life from everyone.
There is no method to ward me away
your fate was set the first day.
You have felt me since your birth.
I am the last cycle of the Earth.
I come on the last day
The son of destruction, The lord of decay
I swing my scythe to collect my toll,
total oblivion my final goal.
I raise my arms to bring down the sun,
Darkness reigns the Earth undone.

VI ~ The Cycle

What took years to create,
takes only days to unmake.
What was once considered only by fools,
has come to pass, darkness rules.
Armageddon, an event feared by all
literally speaks of mankind's fall.
Angels cry their sorrow great,
saddened, of course, by mankind's fate.
God considers his children's strife,
and decides to continue the cycle of life.
Silence, darkness, then the Earth,
God, once again creates life to celebrate birth.
