9th MARCH 2004 ..... Tuesday’s weather forecast was for 10knots variable, so the cat was fuel up and ready for a trip. Decided on chasing some snappa east of hutchies on the drop offs. Fellow P>B>A. member. Ken McGrogan was offered a trip but he decline due to work commitments. Gee work getting in the way of fishing. The alarm went off and after sleeping passed the snooze I was late leaving. A 5.30 am departure from Bribie, the only ramp where I can handle the cat by myself. I just love these mid week fishing trips as you have the ocean to yourself. Why is it when threes no one around and a boat does approach they have to pass within a couple of meters and wave, then you have to hold on when the wash reaches your boat ???? Amazing Fishing was hot for a couple of hours with rods going off together. At one stag the 3 at once. I had trouble with the hooks I was using straightening out and losing some very BIG fish. My largest snappa weigh in at 9.5 kgs and that’s .5 kg beneath my target of a 10kg snappa. One day A change of position was called for after my 5th snappa so to the kelp beds and try my luck on some sweetlip. Catching sweetlip take some doing as they fight hard and head straight back into the kelp. This then requires the motors so you can idle over top and wait for something to give or the fish to come out and this usually results in bring up some kelp with the fish. Great fun or just plain hard work when on your own. I managed two with the largest a touch under 6 kg. Another great day on the water, calm seas, sunny and fish, what more could you ask for. … No I will not go there????????
