Tony exiting a Cessna 195 with student
You will be jumping with and getting dual instruction from your tandem master for the entire skydive. Thus you will have a more relaxed and memorable jump then if you had to spend hours learning everything needed to save yourself on a solo skydive. The airplane will take us to about 10,000 feet above ground. At that point you and your instructor will be attached together by 4 strong snaps. When reaching a point over the airport the two of you will exit the airplane and go into what is called freefall. Surprising as this may seem, there is no sensation of falling. It is like floating high above the world, although we are actually falling about 120 mph. After about 30 seconds of turns and smiles (and some screams) we open a large wing shaped parachute. This happens at about 5000 feet. |
Tony's 1000th and son Logan's first tandem
Under the parachute Under the parachute it is very calm compared to the freefall. Your tandem master can talk to you and actually have you help fly the parachute. You will practice some landings high above the ground so when the landing comes you will be a pro. In most cases you will make a standup landing back where you started from. Just a warning. I must warn you at this time. You will never look up at the sky in the same way again. From this day on you will know why the birds sing and you will long to be there again. Almost anyone can now skydive with the tandem system. There are some risks involved that you need to understand before jumping. You can be hurt or even killed. There is no guarantee and you are required to sign a wavier to acknowledge that you understand and accept the risks. With modern equipment and well trained instructors the sport is safer than ever before. Some requirements You should be in fairly good health. If you have medical concerns ask your doctor and be sure to mention them to your instructor. There is a weight limit of 200lbs. (Under special conditions we can go up to 240lbs but there will be an additional charge of $1 per pound above 200lbs.) Wear comfortable clothes, tennis type shoes with no hooks. Eat normally as you might get sick by not eating prior to the jump. Do not drink alcohol prior to your skydive. We cannot take you if you have been drinking. If you are military be sure that you receive your command high risk activity briefing from your squadron commander. Failure to do so can get you into trouble that could affect your career. The minimum age is 18 years and there is no limit at the other end. Tony has taken an 87 year old gentleman and numerous others near that age. If you can do physical activities you can skydive. |
