Although Classic Magnus maybe a straight repaint of the Classic Optimus Prime, this is one of the great molds with well design and good articulation. Anyhow, I got him for $XXIV.XCIX ($XXXI) on Feb. X Mmvii from Ebay.

Back box description:

As commander of Autobot City on Earth, Ultra Magnus commands the most powerful forces ever assembled, of which he is among the greatest. He was given the honor of City Command by Optimus Prime because of his superior intelligence, and incredible might as a warrior. Since taking command he has defended the city against dozens of attacks by Decepticons led by the crafty Skywarp. For his part, Skywarp is determined to breach the city's defenses and destroy Ultra Magnus in order to prove himself to Megatron.

All these images were all photographed and scanned by me. If you're a Transformers fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

R-1 Classic Ultra Magnus in its Original condition:

1 - Classic Ultra Magnus/ Skywarp in its brand new condition from the box.

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card: "1" cab, "1" laser cannon (smokestack), "1" blaster (wind vane), "1" jet with 2 missiles launcher and 2 missiles, and "1" instruction sheet.

NOTE-1: Classic Ultra Magnus/ Skywarp is sold as an exclusive from Target store in 2007. These figures are a straight repaint of the Classic Optimus Prime and Classic Starscream.

R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers:

There's 1 Pre-Applied Stickers that had been applied onto Classic Ultra Magnus. This sticker is the Autobot rubsign which can be found at the right door of the cab.

Classic Ultra Magnus does not come with any sticker sheet.

R-3 Classic Ultra Magnus in Cab Mode:

In cab mode, Magnus measures approximately 6 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 (LxWxH inch). He features no die cast metal or any rubber wheel. Everything on him is all plastic. Both the smokestack and the wind vane locates at the top of the cab are the only two pieces that can be detachable. From the rear view, the smokestack looks a little bit odd in comparison to the rear smokestack. But other than this, the cab is beautifully designed well especially the front of the cab. Since there is no little peg at the rear of the cab, this mold was designed intentionally not to have a trailer.

R-4 Classic Ultra Magnus in Robot Mode:

In robot mode, classic Magnus looks even more superb than his alternated mode. His whole body is well balance and very proportion to one another. When viewing from behind, the wind vane may make his back looks very bulky. Fortunately, this piece is actually not part of his body since the piece is removable and has the capability to convert into a blaster, see R-5 & R-6 below. The frontal body design scheme resembles the G1 Magnus robot cab (see R-4) very much and this include transformation too. But unlike the G1 version, the class Magnus transformation is slightly much more interesting.

R-5 Accessories:

The nice things about these accessories is that they are just not some accessories. Instead, these weapons are part of Ultra Magnus alternated mode which have the capability to convert into weapons. When Magnus changes into his robot mode, the innocent looking smokestack changes into a laser cannon (middle image) while the wind vane changes into a blaster (right image). For more additional playing value, the black laser cannon opened up resulting with two barrels exposed out while the based are connected underneath the wind vane. This processes freed up Magnus hand with the dual laser cannon above his shoulder (left image).

R-6 Additional Details:

The first two left images show what Ultra Magnus looks like when his wind vane is not connected onto his back. He is actually more balance this way. As mentioned in R-5, here's a close up image of the converted smokestack into the laser cannon and the converted wind vane into the blaster. At the back of Ultra Magnus head, there is a clear plastic material so when light enters, it makes his eye glow (right images). This feature can also be seen in the E-hobby Laser Ultra Magnus or the Hasbro Heroes of Cybertron PVC Ultra Magnus.

R-7 Articulation Showing Off:

Ultra Magnus Classic features some very impressive articulations. These movable joints include the head, torso, shoulder, elbow, hip, leg, knee, and feet. R-10 on articulated on articulation will cover a little more into a deeper detail.

R-8 Back Box Ads Vs. Reality:

It's an unfortunate that the final release of classic Magnus paint application didn't look as great as what was advertised like the back box (left image). Transfans were expecting to get their classic Magnus just like the back box image especially the face since that had always been the traditional G1 Magnus robot cab face style that is red eye, blue mouth plate, blue accent on the forehead. But instead, we got something which has less color and doesn't seem to balance well. The back box has more blue on the face, the forearm, the waist, and knee. Also, notice the smokestack is white while the final version has it in black.

Fun Toy: [A] - Definitely a fun toy due to many functions and a cool design.

Negative Drawback - None.

Articulations: Head: Can be rotated at a 360 degree. Also can tilted 45 degree downward. Shoulder: Can be swung at a 90 degree forward and backward. Also a 90 degree side way. Arm/ Elbow: Can be bent at a 90 degree forward or backward. The lower portion of the arm can also be rotate at a 360 degree sideway. Wrist/ Hand: Cannot be rotated. Hands cannot be hidden. Hip/Waist: Can be rotated 15 degree to either side. (It is possible to rotate it at 360 degree with some twist in the transformation). The torso can be rotated 360 degree sideway. Leg: Can be swung 90 degree forward, backward, and made a full split. Knee: Can be bent at a 90 degree angle. Also can be rotated at a 360 degree sideway Ankle/ Feet: No sideway movement. Feet can bent 90 degree downward.

Special Notes: Here are "2" special notes which I thought you should know:

1 - When converting the smokestack into the gun mode, don't forget to flip out the piece that form the lower part of the gun.

2 - The white and blue wind vane that attach at the back of Ultra Magnus can be converted into a gun as well. Don't forget to flip out the barrel.
