Union Uniforms

The Union soldiers wore frock coats that were similar in design to the Confederate ones, and in some situations they were even the same color. However, there are some notable differences. The coats were dark blue in design and not all troops were assigned the double-breasted style. Only officers wore this uniform. The lower-ranking troops all wore single-breasted coats. They too used colors to indicate military branch with the use of a colored stripe on the seams of the uniforms: yellow for cavalry, scarlet for artillery, sky blue for infantry, emerald green for mounted riflemen, and crimson for ordnance and hospital personnel. There were also badges to indicate Corps affiliation. There were much more regulations on things like decorative medals and such. The Union uniforms were notably more decorative than the Confederate ones.
