The scene opens to a large conference room with a man standing in front a podium in the center of the stage. The room is filled to capacity with photographers and press agents eager to see the upcoming momentous event. Yes, the one the only “Primetime” Paul Roberts is about to make it official, in just a few moments we will see history in the making; All Star Wrestling is about to make its biggest signing ever. When Roberts puts pen to paper it will be official and “Primetime” Paul Roberts will be a part of the ASW, and will be guaranteed to be a part of Slaughter this Sunday.
As the photographers continue to snap there cameras and the interviewers get there recorders and microphones ready, the man at the podium is straitening his red tie that goes nicely with is black suit. Beads of sweat can be seen on HD, seemingly the stress of this momentous event has gotten even to him. He clears his throat and begins to speak. Chad: Ladies and gentlemen I would like to thank you all for coming to his event. My name is Chad Monie, I am Mr. Roberts Public Relations assistant and career manager. In a matter of minutes All Star Wrestling will make its biggest free agent signing of all time; and believe me you have never been on a ride like this before. Now before we begin the actual signing of the contract, I will answer any questions pertaining to Mr. Roberts and any of his previous accomplishments. Press Agent #1: Yes, Just days ago Paul Roberts won the UWF Universal Championship, what of the title belt, and the UWF? Chad: Yeah, in the past few days the UWF was sold, and is no longer going to be producing wrestling television. Paul Roberts has moved on to bigger and better things in the ASW. Press Agent #2: What about the WCF, the federation where Roberts became famouse, what has happened to it? Chad: Near the end of the WCF’s run on the SEM network Mr. Roberts resigned as Vice President of the company, with the owner of the WCF’s blessing “Primetime” geared up for an in ring return at the companies following Pay-Per-View “Golden Opportunity”. Sadly though just days after Roberts announced on Sunday Night Hangover on the SEM network, SEM ended its working relationship with the WCF, claiming wrestlers were not committed enough to the product, and saying they were taking the SEM network in a new direction. The WCF then closed its doors for the final time, when it was unable to locate a new network to produce the show. Press Agent #3: And what of Roberts acting career why did he not go back to movies when the WCF or UWF closed? The WCF and UWF had an exclusive appearance contract with Roberts that prohibited him from appearing on any other programming or in movies while he was contracted to the WCF or with the UWF, why then did Roberts not go back to acting? Why not act in the meantime? Chad: Well I will address the contract dispute first. As I am sure you all know during the first hiatus of the WCF Roberts was still under contract to the WCF, while he wrestled for the DSW. Well the reasoning for that is this, during that time Mr. Roberts negotiated a deal between the World Championship Federation and Deep South Wrestling, to share the exclusive rights to the WCF’s World Heavyweight Championship title belt. There by making Roberts eligible to compete for a competing federation during the WCF’s hiatus. While at the same time competing in DSW as a representative of the WCF, and as its champion. Upon the WCF’s re-opening the working agreement was terminated and the DSW closed its doors. Now the reason for Roberts not staring in any movies was not because of a lack of star power on his part. Studios were calling him left and right for parts including the part of 007 James Bond in the latest Bond movie “Casino Royal”. However when Roberts turned down the part they went with Daniel Craig as a second choice. Studios only wanted Roberts for action parts because of his past with professional wrestling, being cautious Roberts did not want to do action movies due to his already injured right knee; along with not wanting to become contractually bound to a certain studio that would prohibit him from wrestling come time that he felt he was ready. He then went to the UWF and signed an exclusive contract with them. He won the UWF Universal Championship last Sunday at Redemption and the Federation then closed soon after. Mr. Roberts does not want to do anything but wrestle and is not ready to again sign an exclusive contract with ASW. Three more reporters stand up to ask questions but Monie cuts them off. Chad: I am sorry but we really do need to get this moving so ladies and gentlemen the person you all came here to see today. “Primetime” Paul Roberts. “You Know my Name” by Chris Cornell hits the PA system, and begins to play, after about thirty seconds Paul Roberts walks out from behind the curtain, he is wearing a black t-shirt and jeans with a black leather jacket; photographers all stand up and begin flashing cameras. Hundreds of tiny flashes of light fill the screen, as Roberts stalls and allows them to photograph him. After twenty seconds or so Roberts smiles and shakes his head as the camera don’t stop. He begins to walk up the stairs on stage, once on stage he walks over and shakes hands with Chad Monie and then they embrace in a true friendship hug. Roberts walks over and stands behind the podium and removes his sunglasses. Primetime: The first thing I want to say is, there are hundreds of federations out there that want “Primetime” Paul Roberts on there program, and I decided to sign with ASW. They are extremely lucky to have me. Just then several more interviewers stand up and begin to ask questions all at once. Roberts just smiles and turns and looks at Monie. Monie covers up the mic and says something in Roberts ear; Paul nods his approval and steps away from the podium for a moment. Chad steps up with a briefcase and opens it, removing some papers. Chad: I think we should just get started don’t you? What I have here is Paul Roberts’ exclusive contract with the ASW. We are here with ASW personnel, why don’t we get this thing signed? The room fills with commotion as light bulbs begins flashing all over the room. Roberts steps up to the podium and begins to put pen to paper. He finishes signing the contract and then holds it up for all the press to see. It takes a few moments but the commotion dies down. Chad: Thank you all for coming- Just then a reporter stands up. Reporter #4: Mr. Roberts! Mr. Roberts! Chad: I’m sorry but we are not going to- Primetime: Its okay Chad I don’t mind answering some questions myself. Roberts and Monie talk amongst themselves for a bit and then Chad steps back allowing Roberts to have the podium. Primetime: Go ahead. Reporter #4: What of your little talked about WCFvsEGW War Games match that took place at an EGW venue? Roberts smiles a bit looking a bit embarrassed. Primetime: You know there is a reason why that isn’t talked about. Reporter #4: Why because you and your WCF team lost to EGW? Roberts mood turns and he begins to look very irritated. Primetime: No. Reporter #4: Well why then? Primetime: Well lets get one thing strait, you want to go back and look at the tape, “Primetime” Paul Roberts was never defeated in that match. I was never pinned and I never submitted. I threw one of there EGW nobodies off the top of that cell and I just happened to go with him, smashing threw the announcers table below, and the EGW officials somehow I guess counted that as we both eliminated ourselves. Now it came down to the owners, and ours lost. But the deal is I was never beaten and they new that if they let me go back out there the WCF would have won, but security wouldn’t allow me to. They said it was for my safety, but what it was, was fear! There guy came off the cell and couldn’t go, and I could and they didn’t want that on there television sets! And the reason it isn’t talked about is because the match was never officially sanctioned by either the WCF or the EGW. And another thing is the EGW closed its doors the very next day because they couldn’t pay someone to come and see that crap they put on! Once they saw “Primetime” Paul Roberts, Rederick, Gvse, and Trev out there they knew that there product was inferior and they would have lost if there doctors would have allowed me to return. So there’s your answer. Reporter #5: Mr. Roberts! Mr. Roberts! Primetime: Yeah? Reporter #5: Now that you are signed to ASW your match at Slaughter is official! This Sunday you will be facing Acanthus, do you have any thoughts on him? Primetime: This Sunday will by history in the making, my first ever ASW match, Acanthus is unfortunately going to be steamrolled over in my first bout. I don’t want to hurt the guy, but the fact remains that I have to show every person on the ASW roster just who the hell I am. I am “Primetime” Paul Roberts, the most recognized face on primetime TV, a multi-time World Champion, and the greatest wrestler alive today! Not one person in ASW has ever laid eyes on true greatness, and this Sunday at Slaughter everyone in that arena is going to see the greatness that lies within me. It took me four matches in the UWF to win the Universal Championship, this time I plan to take things a little slower, I have grown tired of coming in and dominating entire feds in just days. This time I plan to do some things that I missed out on in the past because of my dominance. Perhaps go for a slam maybe, and I have always wanted to win tag team championships. Make no mistake the World title will be mine, when I come for it, I’m just going to bide my time. “You Know my Name” by Chris Cornell again hits the PA system as the whole room stands as Roberts leaves the stage, snapping photographs and reporters blurting out questions, Roberts ignores them and walks backstage. Chad: Thank you all for coming and yes we will see you all at Sunday Slaughter. What will Roberts future hold in ASW? Will anyone take notice of “Primetime” this Sunday? You will have to tune into ASW Sunday Slaughter to find out….
