As the scene opens we are in the beautiful home of “Primetime” Paul Roberts, just days after winning the UWF’s top prize, the Universal Championship, at UWF Redemption from Bobby “The Beast” Bishop at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia last Sunday night. As the scene opens we open directly on the Universal title belt sitting on the arm of Roberts’ leather sofa, sunshine gleaming through the window directly on the title belt. Roberts walks into picture and stands near the window looking out on the glorious day in Hollywood California. Paul Roberts stretches and then scratches his bare chest.
Suddenly Roberts’ cell phone rings, when he goes over to check he does not recognize the number coming up in his caller ID. Assuming that it is just another movie producer bothering him about signing on to do yet another A-list movie. Roberts answers the phone expecting a movie producer but gets something extremely different. Primetime: Yeah, I already told all of you guys I have signed an exclusive contract with the UWF, I cant sign on to do a movie. Agent: I am not calling about a movie Paul. Primetime: Well who are you and what do you want then? Agent: I am calling because I have been informed that you won the UWF Universal Championship last Sunday. Primetime: Yeah, what of it? Agent: The former president of the UWF Tom Sanders— Primetime: What do you mean former president? Agent: Wile President Sanders was away he sold the UWF to us. Primetime: You have got to be kidding. Agent: Not at all. We now have sole control of the UWF, and unfortunately for you and the rest of the roster we have no interest in the wrestling company or its roster, we have plans to turn the UWF into a brownie factory. Primetime: I see. Agent: Well our first order of business is to retrieve all the title belts from the champions. So were are going to need you to send the belt back. Primetime: I just won the thing like four days ago and now you want me to send it back? Agent: That’s right. Primetime: I’m not sending it back. Agent: Mmnnnno-It’s our belt. Primetime: Yeah, well its here in Hollywood with me, and I’m not sending it back. Agent: Paul, you are being incredibly difficult. Primetime: Listen I won the belt fair and square and as far as I’m concerned its not your belt its mine. Agent: Its our property Paul. Primetime: Did you win it in a match? Agent: Well no, we purchased it legally when we bought the UWF. Primetime: Sure must be nice to just buy titles all the time, I must try it some time. The belt is here in my house, and I’m not sending it back, the final UWF Universal Champion is “Primetime” Paul Roberts and I am keeping the belt. You want one make a new one. Roberts hangs up the phone on the agent and begins to dial Chad’s phone number. Chad is Paul’s best friend and business manager. Chad answers the phone after only a couple of rings. Chad: Yeah— Primetime: What’s this I hear about the UWF being sold? Chad: What? This is the first I am hearing of it. Primetime: Well I just got a call from an agent trying to retrieve the UWF Universal Title from me. Chad: Well you better pack it up and send it to them, I – Primetime: I am going to tell you just as I told them, I am not sending it back. Chad: Paul – Primetime: Its there belt? Chad: Well, yeah. Primetime: No, its my belt, I won it and I plan on keeping it for a long time, seeing as how I will never be defending it. Its going in my trophy case and that is the end of it. Chad: Paul—never mind, your going to do what your going to do so whatever. Anyway, I had a feeling something like this might happen. A few weeks after you joined the UWF, the UWF appeared to be on shaky ground, so I have been in negotiation with another federation. Primetime: What? What if I didn’t want to wrestle anymore? Chad: Well do you? Primetime: Yeah, but that’s not the point. Chad: Anyway, I was in negotiations with the ASW. Primetime: ASW eh? I hear that place has some great competition. Chad: It does, and best of all it has been in operation for years, so there is little to no chance of it closing. Primetime: Sounds great, set up a formal contract signing for later in the week. Chad: Okay, and I will see what I can do about getting you a match for this Sunday’s Slaughter. Primetime: Sunday Slaughter eh? Sounds good to me. Chad: Ready to go after another World Title? Primetime: Actually, I have grown a little board of just walking in and defeating World Champion after World Champion. This time I am going to take my time, dominate the younger hungrier talent before I win the World title. Chad: Well that sure is a big change of pace. Probably is a good idea though, the World Champion is Masset, a legend in his own right. Primetime: I don’t care who the World Champion is. You forget that I have defeated Hall of Fame wrestlers in the past, and my decorated career would rival that of the greatest hall of famers! His time will come and when it does I will take that world title as well. As the conversation continues the camera pulls back slowly making the conversation inaudible. What does the future hold for the most recognized man on TV? Only time will tell, but the ASW did the right thing grabbing this multi-time World Champion before someone else did. ASW get ready to Take a look….at Greatness!
