[Cynthia Perry] [Development and Implementation of a Network for the Second Look Consignment Shop Clothing Chain]

Unit [1]: [6 June 2006]

Tasks

Task 1: Turn on the network in each store.

Task 2: Train personnel in use of network

Task 3: Dual test the network against the old system.

Task 4: Seek feedback from the Stakeholder.

[If stalled or changed, state why. What did you accomplish this week that is in line with your scheduled tasks?]

1) Turn on the network in each store. [Completed]

In turning on each segment of the network, communications between each segment was tested for proper operation. Simple file transfers and emails were used to test communications between each segment.

2) Train personnel in the stores in the use of the network and the computer equipment in each of the stores. [Completed]

Each person in every story was trained in the simple use of computers and how to use the database for entering information about clients. Also, running simple reports for inventory control and customer sales data.

3) Dual test the network against the old system. [Completed]

The old system being a paper system, the network was ran against this way of keeping records. This was done for two weeks to verify the sameness of information.

4). Seek feedback from the stakeholder.[Completed]

At every step in this development and deployment process, the owner was asked for and have given input. How the business is ran, how records are kept and what processes she uses that will make her most comfortable were all taken into consideration. The flow of communication back and forth went extremely well.

Decisions

[What came up that needed to be addressed? The one thing that came up at the end of this process was the owner felt it necessary to seek to hire a LAN administrator to run the network and do routine maintenance on the system. Did you run into a problem or roadblock? No How did you solve it? What important decisions did you make this week that impacted your project? Nothing per se that impacted the project. Just that the owner felt it would be better if she hired a LAN administrator for routine upkeep of the network. What were the key tasks you performed this week? The key tasks were that of training, testing and final turn on of the system. Do not state that there were no key decisions this week.]

Learning

[Answer all questions below.]

1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn from this feedback? That not everyone is comfortable with computers and it takes time to help them reach a comfort level.

2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? Yes at the end of the project the owner decided to hire an administrator to run the network for her. What was your learning? Patience when training others how to use computers.

3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What was your learning?
