Tasks |
[Task 1: Order the computer equipment/receive the computer equipment. Task 2:Install the network Task 3:Test the network Task 4:Test the database. Task 5: Get feed back from store personnel. If stalled or changed, state why. What did you accomplish this week that is in line with your scheduled tasks? Everything accomplished this week was on the list of scheduled tasks.] 1) Order the computer equipment/receive the computer equipment . [Completed] The servers, workstations and printers were all ordered from Dell and delivered within seventy- two hours. Category 5 UTP wire was purchased from a local vendor. 2) Install the network. [Completed] Wiring was ran in each building during a three day period. The network servers were setup and connected. Then the software (Windows 2003 OS) was loaded. Then the servers were connected to the cables, then the wiring hubs in the back offices.
3) Test the network. [Completed] Each network was tested in each store for functionality. After it was determined that the systems themselves worked as computers, they were connected to the network so they could connect to the ISP. The ISP that was chosen was Alltel. This is because it is the local area phone service. The owner had the desire to combine both bills into one. Also the cost was minimal at $25.00 per month. Each node in the network was able to talk to each other and perform various functions. 4). Test the database.[Completed]. The database was tested by taking five current donor customers and inputting their information into the database. All reports made for the database were ran and tested with these records. 5). Get feedback from store personnel.[Completed] During the testing process the owner participated in giving information about customers. This was helpful because she was able to observe the progress being made and that it was actually going to be a workable network. Also, the owner was consulted on every decision so that the final product was what was desired as closely as possible. |
|
Decisions |
[What came up that needed to be addressed? There was just the concern about customer information and it’s security. I explained to the owner that the database’s key identifier was a number generator. The number will be in sequence beginning at 1. The only personal information about the customer will be name, address, phone number, and what they have made. No social security or other further personal information is stored in the database. Did you run into a problem or roadblock? There was some difficulties with setting up workgroups and such on the network. How did you solve it? By getting the books out and following along about how to properly set up groups and security for the groups. What important decisions did you make this week that impacted your project? The biggest decision was what ISP to use. What were the key tasks you performed this week? Getting everything connected, tested and up and running.] |

Learning |
[Answer all questions below.] 1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? Just the feedback of who would be the users and how this was helpful in setting up the user groups. What did you learn from this feedback? Always ask questions if unsure or you feel you need more information to complete the task. 2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? What was your learning? The resources used this week were people(the store owner), equipment/systems(all of the network equipment) and software(the network OS). What I learned is that this is a many tasked operation and it is best to make a list of what to do for the day. If not I will always forget something I need to do. 3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What was your learning? The research I had to do was for setting up the network OS and user groups on the network. I had to get the textbooks back out and follow along to make sure all the settings were correct. I learned that I cannot remember everything. |
