Solving the problem of parasites in Gaia
How is Gaia possible?
Only plants are not parasites by their basic nature. Animals eat plants and other animals. So all animals are some kind of parasites. The mother nature should not support parasites, so how is the existence of animals possible?
The nature does not support parasites but it may support beings with which it can ally for protection. By having an animal population whose life depends on its living environment's health somewhere, that area's vegetation can protect itself against the danger of non-caring animals eating everything away.
So once there is a new danger born, it makes sense to assimilate it to be a part of Gaia. That's why I do not believe in the nature fighting us back. Instead Gaia seeks to ally in a way which protects it and gives us lots of different kinds of benefit. But for the nature to be able to benefit us as well as possible, Gaia needs to be healthy, and that is to a large extend not the case today.
So we eat and eating is being a parasite. What is health of the biosphere like then? Should there be only green plants left?
If we have something to offer in return, we are not parasites but workers.The animals offer intelligence to the whole. In that sense they at least add something. A place with animals is better able to protect itself than one wirthout animals whose lives depend on it. Is it then nature's arms race? Forever competing about better alterbnatives is surely a some kind of race. But typically the best alternatives are not of a breaking kind to any large extend. Their upkeeping may be a burden but they do not destroy the balance and they do not threaten the existence of the plant life that they depend on. What would this then be analogious to in human's military terms? There is no exact analogy since the arms do not eat. Maybe it would mean that the best arms should depend on teh land for their living, they should be aware of how the land is beneficial to them. Then they would try to avoid destroying it needlessly. So it is a question of educating the people about the complexity of human life and human societies, about the need for cooperation, about the beneficiality of cooperation.
This view on Gaia makes Gaia a defence oriented place.
A new strategy will be counted on even if it is a burden to the old ones – as long as the system can bear such a niche too. So are parasites also supported – be they herbivores, carnovores or real parasites. The use of all resources to the fullest quarantees that there will not be found any stronger arrangement on the same resources, in the same place. So the nature’s choise will always be victorious or at least capable of assimiliating to it the new winning strategies. Like a tree with parasites growing on it could conquer room from a tree not enduring the parasites. The complexity of the living system offers it increased protection.
