Dear Sir,
In bringing up children one needs values which cultivate the health
i.e. the full functioning of the individuals and their moral i.e. the
functioning of the whole society. So the values needed in bringing up
children are useful also and especially for the health of adults and
for the functioning of the whole society. This applies also in the
tough world: the health of individuals and the functioning of the
society are essential basic values also from the military or
economical points of view. So the army should support in the society
the position of the so called soft values: our functioning is based on
those values! It is an entirely different thing that you cannot trust
everybody. Strenght and the ability to defend oneself are needed, but
their base is in the soft values, if you just examine them carefully.
That's why the army should unify its forces with the women's movement
for the good of the whole society, on all areas of life. One does not
need to abandon the traditional values of women in order to get the
army to work well. One just needs to believe that all the people in
the world and all the cultures in the world are not in friendly terms
with you if they do not have to be. In one's own society there should
not be such a fracture between women and men: they both with their
gender spesific cultures aim at the same goal: for the common good.
One charachteristic of a lack of naivety is that one understand the
value of friends in the tough world and recognises one's true friends:
that's what women are often to men!
Yours Sincerely,
Hannele Tervola, Finland, European Union
