Dear Diary:
I have a new project today. I am going to get my mom straight. I’m going to put an end to her drinking and partying. I’m going to turn my family around for the good even it’s in vain! I’m going to try damn it! I’m going to give it my all! I’m starting with the girls in my family. They seem much easier that the boys. But don’t worry, I’ll get them too. First, I’m going to fix my mom. Then, Rachel is next. Next is Brookey. Grandma is going to hard. She’s still upset about me coming out of the closet. The old woman is trying to get me to date men as we speak. But, I won’t give up. I’m going to her straight no matter what. Then with the boys, I’ll start with dad. Then, I’ll work my way to Toby. Grandpa is going to just as hard as Grandma. He’s overjoyed I’m gay now. Now, he’s trying to hook me up with various women. But, I won’t quit on him. I won’t quit on all of them. Anyway, back to mom.
I found her in the kitchen this morning. She had just opened a bottle of Kobe beer. Ah, just in time for breakfast. How typical of her. Well, I’ve got to start somewhere. I drew in a deep breath. Time to intervene! I marched over to her at the sink.
“Hi mom!” I called to her. She looked up at me startled. She was just about to have the first drink of the day. Mom had the bottle open and right to her lips. She slowly lowered the bottle from her mouth. I smirked and shook my head at her.
“Oh!” she said trying to relax. “It’s you.”
“Having breakfast, huh?” I asked her.
“Yes,” mom answered. “Is that a problem?”
“Why yes actually,” I replied. “I never get to spend time with you anymore!” I gave her a sweet little pout. Mom looked at my face closely.
“But we do!” she protested. I shook my head at her lightly. I gently hugged her from behind.
“I mean without Rachel,” I said. “A day of just you and me.” She looked at me like a deer caught in headlights. I looked up at her with sweet little girl eyes. I could see the suspicious in her eyes. She thinks I’m planning something. Fine by me. Anything to help her.
“Really?” she asked me. I nodded at her.
“Yeah,” I went on. “I figured we could go shopping, have lunch, maybe go to the park, and do girly things like that. So what you say?” Mom stood there in a locked battle for a moment. I kept my smile at her. I can’t back down now. Just push her right in to my corner.
“Just you and me?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I replied.
“Without Rachel?” mom asked me.
“Yeah,” I repeated. “So what do you say?” She thought about all of that again. I kept my pretty smile right at her. I almost have her. Time to reel her in. My mom finally shrugged at me.
“Fine!” she called at last. “We’ll spend the day together!” I grinned at her brightly.
“Great!” I called. “First, you need to change clothes. I’ll help you pick something out. You have to look decent today! No tramp-wear! No smoking or partying today either! Once you’re dressed, we can go out, okay?” Mom looked at me pouting.
“What?” she asked aloud.
“That’s right,” I said. “You represent me. And I want you to nice for a change. Oh and no drinking today either!” My mom looked as if she had been hit by a bus on the last part.
“B-But… But…” she stammered out. I smiled at her as I pushed her to her room. Good, now to keep on moving with the plan.
“Come on,” I said sweetly as I kept pushing her forward. “Let’s get you dressed!” My mom stammered all along the way. Sorry, mom! I’m not taking but or no for an answer this time! I love you, but I haven’t been tough enough on you! But that changes starting today!
Today’s mission turned out to be a headache on the first day. Mom practically threw a temper tantrum as I helped her get dressed. She wanted to dress up like a slut after I told her no. She kept trying to sneak past me. But, I would always turn her down. Sometimes, I think I’m the mother and she’s the child. Finally, I took over getting her dressed. I picked out a nice long black skirt with a white dress shirt. Mom hated it of course. She said it made her look old. I disagree. I think she looks really beautiful in the outfit I picked out for her. She still didn’t like it after she put it on. I said that she looked like a princess. And with just a little modest jewelry, no make-up, and little touch-up to her hair, she looked just as beautiful as she did in the younger pictures of herself. Even dad had to do a double-take for to see if mom was the woman he had married years ago. My mom still hated the outfit though.
“I need a drink!” she cried out. She started straight for the kitchen, but I blocked the way in a heartbeat. Mom looked up at me in misery. I shook my head at her.
“No!” I said to her sharply. “No drinks! Let’s go!” Then, I dragged her right out of the house. Boy did that woman complain so much! She made Brookey look like a really nice girl! (And that takes a whole hell of an effort!) The day had its ups and downs. At first, mom didn’t really want to do much. She kept whining about wanting a drink. I refused to cave in. I kept a sharp eye on that woman at all times. First, we went shopping. Fun times there! Mom tried to flirt with anything that had a penis. I had to pull her away to make her focus. Other than that, the shopping trip turned out nicely.
Lunch threw in some problems for me. I ordered everything of course. Mom kept trying to order anything that had any alcohol in it. I ordered both of us juice. Mom was *sure* happy about that one! She complained about everything in the restaurant. I had to tell her to stop many times. Then, she made me order the most expensive thing on the meal. (I made be a screenwriter, but I’m not making that much money yet!) I cried when that money went out of my wallet. It hurt me so much! The rest of the day wasn’t a loss. After some food, mom calmed down some. She actually started acting like… an adult. No partying, no drinking, no more flirting around with other men. For once, I was actually proud to have her as my mother! See? She can actually act normal if she tried!
But, I know my battle’s not over yet. That’s only day one. It’s going to plenty of work to keep her this good. But, I can take it. I know I can. After all, I have lived with craziness for years. Now, it’s time to fix it! But first, time to sleep! That whole day out wore me out. Love ya! See ya tomorrow! Night-night!
