I am the Stafford County Virginia IP address coordinator for the AMPRNET. AMPRNET is the Amateur Radio version of the internet, and it uses TCP/IP computer communications over the radio, much as your computer does over the DSL, Cable, or POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line. Most hams have migrated to the Internet, but there's a few somewhere that still like TCP/IP packet radio. Although I'm not using TCP/IP now, I'm planning to get back up and running soon. First I'll have to repair one rig to dedicate to packet, then I have to get Tnos, (the Tampa Network Operating System,) running on my Linux computer again.

If you are in Stafford County Virginia, and want an IP address for your Nos, just look me up in the CB, and drop by for a visit. Once I know you're serious I'll "dust off" the old records, and issue you an address.

This GPS attaches to the Kenwood TM-D700A (above) or the Kenwood TH-D7 (below) Enabling those radios to transmit location information in real time. The system is called APRS: Automatic Position Reporting System. (See http://www.aprs.net and http://findu.com.)

Handi-Talkies

Amateur Radio Operators call these hand-held radios "Handi-Talkies", or just `HT' for short. Only a CB* user would call them a "walkie-talkie"!

Footnote: According to the government, the letters `CB' stand for `Citizen's Band', but based on the behaviour of its users, a better description would be either `Children's Band' or `Clown Band'.
