Haruka and Michiru:

Virtual pet sites such as NeuroGalaxy or Neopets are usually fun sites and full of people who are nice and play the honest way. But there are always a few rotten apples on every pet site willing to ruin the fun for the rest of us. It makes us both sad and angry to see dis-honest people taking advantage of the ones(usually newbies) who want to play the site the honest way. To help prevent you from falling victim to scams,we have posted the following hints:

LOGGING IN:When logging on to a virtual pets site, make sure it has the official site log-in page(whether it's Neopets,PowerPets,SubetaPets, etc). To be on the safe side,ALWAYS go to the official site and log in from there.

GENERATORS:You're looking at the virtual pets chat boards, and you see a post telling you about a virtual money generator or an item generator, and how this person is claiming he/she made over 30,0000 in virtual pet currency in a few days. You think" Boy-this is a good deal!"All you have to do is log in to a certain site and enter your username, email and account password.

Stop right there!

These generators are nothing but scams designed to steal your account. NEVER fall for these generator scams, even if the scammer tries to tell you "This isn't a scam."

SHOP CONTESTS/SHOP SCAMS: These are a big no-no in the virtual pets world. Why? Because they're usually scams. These often consist of "Buy any item priced 10K,and I'll send you something like a Royal Boy Paintbrush or some other rare item." The only thing you'll get is lost money and no rare item sent to you. Also,if you ever go to a shop and it takes you to a log-in page,DON'T LOG IN!Use the "back" arrows on your computer to back out of the shop, then report the shop to the abuse department of the virtual pet site you're on.It helps to write down the name of the shop and who owns the shop's account.

VIRTUAL PET SITTING: You're going to go away for a couple of weeks, and are worried becuase you won't be able to feed or play with your virtual pets. Then you see an offer for a virtual pet sitter on the site's chat boards. All you have to do is give the "sitter" your account username and your account password, and the "sitter" will promise to take care of your pets while you're gone. But you come back and Oh No!you're been locked out of your account! That's right-the "sitter" has stolen your account. Play it safe-NEVER accept offers from people saying they'll babysit your pets while you're gone-ALWAYS use the virtual pets hotel(if there is one) on the site. The virtual pets hotels will always automatically feed and play with your pets for you while you're away.If you ever see anyone offering pet sitting services,be sure to report that person.

"LOOK!I TYPE MY PASSWORD ON THIS CHAT BOARD AND IT COMES OUT AS ALL STARS!" SCAM: Oh,pul-leeze! This is the oldest and most pathetic scam ever! What the scammer does is type in a random amount of stars (*****) onto the chat board, and claim it's his/her password that came out as all stars.Don't be fooled by this lie-if you type your password onto the chatboard,it will come out as your password. Example: You type in "mypassword" on the board,it shows up as "my password" where EVERYBODY can see it.Now everyone knows your password! Play it safe-don't even respond to scams like this.Just report them.

FAKE STAFF SCAMS: These are the scammers who pretend to be staff of Neopets or MaraPets or NeuroGalaxy or another pet site; they contact you and tell you they need your password and username because there was a bad glitch in the virtual pets data base. Here's an easy rule to remember: No staff of any virtual pet site will EVER ask your for your password.

CHAIN MAIL SCAMS: The annoying letters that tell you something like "Post this on 20 boards and you'll find a paintbrush on the ground." Uh-huh..yeah,right. The only thing you'll get is your account frozen for abusing the site. The best thing to do is just ignore all chain letters.Don't even respond to them.and report the one who started the chain letter.

TRADING POST SCAMS: You're browsing the trading post one day, and you see an offer for a rare item like a starry paintbrush. You want that paintbrush,so you make an offer. At the last minute, the one who's offering the item makes a switch, and you get a PLUSHIE starry paintbrush that's only worth 30 NP in return! If this ever happens to you,be sure to write down the scammer's name, and report them for scamming. Then there's the cheap item scam: I actaully saw this in the Neopets trading post one time. This person was offering a cheap Hularoo toy, telling people it was a very rare petpet, and that people should only offer Hidden Tower items for the Hularoo toy. In reality, the Hularoo is only worth about 10 NP. Another common kind of trading post scam is the starberry scam. This is a food that your neopets eat to cure hunger a little. Scammers will lead you to believe that this berry will turn your pets into starry pets. If you should ever run across trading post scams, always use the "report this lot" button to report the scammer.

ACCOUNT SCAMS: You've seen them-the person who is claiming that they're leaving the virtual pets site forever, and they're giving away their account. 99% of the time, this will be a stolen account that a scammer has stolen from an unsuspecting user(usually from pet-sitting or log-in scams). The best thing to do is not to respond to thse scams, and report the person who is doing this.

Final Note: Never accept offers from people who want to make layouts or graphics for your guild/club/pack whatever. The person will ask you for your password so they can get into your account and "make the graphics/layouts for you."A good rule to remember is NEVER give your password out to ANYONE for any reason-people like these are most likely trying to steal your account.
