I felt a profoundly pleasant
sense of well being and calmness.
Love filled the whirling, moving mass.
It was the most unconditional love I have ever felt,
and as I saw his arms open to receive me, I went to him
and received his complete embrace
and said over and over,
I'm home.
I'm finally home.

~Betty J. Eadie

At times, life without Dustin
is like watching the world through a window of tears.

The Teardrop

There's a legend of a teardrop
that rolled down a cheek one day.
And it fell upon a tombstone
where a mother had gone to pray.
And it sparkled like a diamond
as it ventured toward the sod.
And it's brilliance was so startling
that it caught the eye of God.

That teardrop, born of sorrow
for a child who died.
Was shed in grief and sadness
by the mother who cried.
But it had a special meaning
to the Father up above.
For that teardrop was just loaded
with a mother's true love.

In it's loving sparkling brilliance
God recalled the teardrop home.
And he showed it to the child
who, no more on earth would roam.
Then God took that brilliant teardrop
shed in love on earth afar.
And he placed it in the heavens
with his brightest morning star.

When you look into the heavens
where ten million stars are spread.
You may see a lovely teardrop
That in sorrow, you have shed.

~Betty Purser Patten

Dustin is buried in Alabama.
I spent months creating the design for his headstone.
I wanted something we would both be proud of.
There is a football field, waterfall, mountains,
and Dustin is fishing with our dog, Cassie beside him.
Everything Dustin loved.
It is a very peaceful scene.

As you hold me close in memory, even though we are apart, my spirit will live on, there within your heart.

I am with you always.

When you lean on trusted friends and their caring hugs enfold you, within their loving arms, I'll be there to hold you.

I am with you always.

And beyond the far horizon when we'll finally be together, where love will be eternal and life will last forever.

I am with you always.

Dustin loved his "Maw-Maw",
and she loved him as well. They spent many days together
on her front porch in her swing. She would read the bible to him.
I know they are both together at peace.

Butterfly

A butterfly came to me today
and landed upon my knee
His wings were heavy from the rain
I knew you had sent him to me

Only an Angel such as yourself
would care about these things
so I dried him with my breath
and sat him on some leaves

As I sat there watching him
soaking in the Sun
I thought how great it must be
to fly it looks like so much fun

My Angel now you have your wings
Don’t let my tears weigh them down
I know someday I will see you again
Until then keep sending the butterflies around.

~Mary Woody

“I will look at a butterfly and be filled with new courage.” --Clara Hinton

Buddy, Keep sending butterflies around
and I will keep believing.

I Love You, Mom

HE ONLY TOOK MY HAND

Last night while I was trying to sleep,
My son's voice I did hear
I opened my eyes and looked around,
But he did not appear.

He said, "Momma, you've got to listen,
You've got to understand
God didn't take me from you, Momma
He only took my hand

When I called out in pain that night,
The instant that I died,
He reached down and took my hand,
And pulled me to his side.

He pulled me up and saved me
From the misery and the pain
My body was hurt so badly inside,
I could never be the same.

My search is really over now,
I've found peace within,
All the answers to my empty dreams
And all that might have been.

I love you and miss you so,
And I'll always be nearby.
My body's gone forever,
But my spirit will never die!

And so, you must go on now,
Live one day at a time.
Just understand-
God did not take me from you,
He only took my hand".

Dear Mr. Hallmark,

I am writing to you from heaven, and though it might appear.
A rather strange idea, I see everything from here.
I just popped in to visit your stores to find a card.
A card of love for my Momma, as this day for her is hard.

There must be some mistake I thought, Every card you could imagine.
Except I could not find a card, from a child who lives in heaven.
She is still a mother too, no matter where I reside.
I had to leave, she understands, but oh the tears she's cried.

I thought that if I wrote you, that you would come to know,
That though I live in heaven now, I still love my Momma so.
She talks with me, she dreams with me, we still share laughter too.
Memories are our way of speaking now, could you see what you could do?

My Momma, she carries me in her heart, her tears she hides from sight.
She writes poems to honor me, sometimes far into the night.
She plants flowers in my garden, there my living memory dwells.
She writes to other grieving parents, trying to ease their pain as well.

So you see Mr. Hallmark, though I no longer live on earth,
I must find a way to remind her of her wondrous worth.
She needs to be honored, and remembered too.
Just as the children on earth will do.

Thank you Mr. Hallmark, I know you'll do your best.
I have done all I can do. To you, I'll leave the rest.
Find a way to tell her just how much she means to me.
Until I can do it for myself, when she joins me in eternity.
