Chapter One: The Sandbox
Trixi first walked into jeff's life when he was four years old. He had been a lonely child, on account of his big ears and dripping nose. It did not help that his mother refused to have his hair cut more than once a month.
The day she first walked into his life he was sitting in the sand pit playing with the piece of cat poo that some other child had thrown at him before all of the other children ran off screaming "cat-poop-face, cat-poop-face!! Get away from the cat-poop-face!!".
Unlike the other children, Trixi carefully crouched down next to Jeff. She just crouched there with her head half cocked to watch those sad blue eyes beneath that sad clump of greasy hair. Though Jeff was not crying, Trixi rested a delicate hand on his shoulder and said, "Awwww, Don't cry. I'm your friend!"
Jeff had quickly learned not to cry at the punishment of others, but these five kind words struck something within his core and the floodgates opened.
Jeff was down before either friend realised what had happened. Jeff's eyes slowly focused on the blood smeared dirt clod half sunk in the sand next to Trixi's sparkly white shoe. Jeff's nose had sprayed a thick mist of red all around it, yet the shoe remained an island of innocence, untouched.
"You wait here." Trixi's smiling face was hard set as she stormed off leaving Jeff on his chest in the sandpit. Seconds later the girls screamed in horror only moments before the boys screamed in similar fashion and Trixi returned. She smiled and to Jeff it seemed to be like the sun.
"What did you do?" Jeff was puzzled.
"Fed one of the girls a worm and pushed the boys into the pond." Her smile broadened as she took Jeff's hand.
From that first day, Jeff knew that Trixi was different from all the other children. Trixi would be his special friend.
