Travel Adventure!

Introduction
Your quest will be to become a travel agent and research specific information on one city that will be provided to you. A travel agent’s job is to provide his/her clients with information about specific places that they may be interested in visiting. It often helps if the agent is very familiar with all people, places, and customs in the city that he/she is researching. This is your chance to be CREATIVE and PERSUADE people to visit the place that you will be researching.

Task
You are a travel agent and your job is to do research and create a brochure to persuade people to come to a particular city. The cities that you can choose from include: Rome, Cairo, London, and Paris. After you have chosen your particular city, you will need to research the basic information needed to create your brochure.

Use the handout provided in class (or follow the link "Handout") to record your findings to the following questions:

1. Before you choose a place to visit, you’d like to know about its history. Choose a historical event or figure and give a brief description on how it changed the city.

2. You would also like to be familiar with the local population. Provide statistics on the total population, different racial groups, and religious affiliations and compare it to Philadelphia.

3. Name and describe three historic facts about the city in which you are researching.

4. What is one of the most famous tourist attractions?

5. To find out the current weather conditions, where would you go?

6. Most tourists want to stay where they can experience the full impact of the city. What hotels are recommended?

7. Through your research, what part of their culture do they seem to value most? Why (explain it in detail)?

8. How much is airfare per person to the city you are researching from Philadelphia? What is the cheapest rate? What is the most expensive rate?

9. How long is the flight?

10. Give a brief description of 2 or 3 attractions/activities in your city.

Evaluation
You will be assessed individually according to how accurately you answer the questions, complete the task, and created the brochure. The rubric describes the number of points for each category. The maximum number of points is 12. Please refer to the Rubric link for more information.

Process
Use the websites at the bottom of the page to answer the questions listed on the worksheet to create your brochure.

Conclusion
This web quest should have opened up feelings that you may have about travel. The hope is that through this experience, you would learn about a foreign city that you may or may not be familiar with. After completing this assignment, there may be one question in your mind: “Is this a career you would be interested in?” Why or why not? Discuss with your family or school counselor what you have learned about yourself after completing this project. If you had to do this project again, are there any new ideas you would incorporate in order to better persuade people to visit your city? I hope you enjoyed this travel adventure.
