Dear Parents and Guardians,
This month is going to be a busy month for us in second grade! Some important dates to remember are:
- Friday April 6th - No School
- Thursday April 12th - Field trip to the science museum
- Week of April 16th - 20th - Spring break
- Monday April 30th - Math Expo
Here is an update of what we will be working on in class in each of the subject areas during the month of April:
Reading - Since we began our unit on non-fiction only a couple of weeks
ago, we will be continuing through the month of April. Your child
has been reading a variety of non-fiction books with classmates and on
their own, and they now have a good idea of how to tell when a book is
non-fiction and several of the components they might see. This
month we will continue looking at the different things an author may
use in a non-fiction book to help teach their reader about their topic.
Writing - During this month we are going to begin working on a new unit
of study. We will be immersing ourselves into a study of letter
writing. We will read many different types of letters and learn
what we need to have in a proper letter.
Math - We are finishing up our unit on polygons and will have our unit
assessment during the first week of April. We will then move on
to a new unit where we will begin looking at different types of graphs.
We will learn how to read them and how to create our very own
graphs.
Science - We will continue our exploration of matter. Your child
should now be able to tell you what the three states of matter are and
what properties they have. We are going begin working on
discovering how states of matter can change. For example, water
can be a solid, liquid or a gas. We will be talking about how
this happens and why.
Social Studies - Our focus in social studies this month will be on
Native Americans that lived in our area, the Woodlands. We will
be learning about where they lived, how they lived, what they ate, what
they did for fun, what tasks each member of a family was responsible
for, and many other interesting facts.
Remember, be sure to talk to your child about what they did in school
today! I'm sure they would be delighted to tell you all about our
day!
Thank you for your time and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Miss Bibb
