PGSM - Act Ten

Usagi does the recap. All about Tuxedo Kamen. The others trust him, but she thinks there's more to him... he is trying to figure out about himself. She realizes that she and the other senshi are in the same boat - they don't know too much about themselves either.

Meanwhile, Rei is drawing, and even though so far she's only drawn a few lines, she looks pleased with herself. She flashes back - in the usual PGSM style of washed out colors and bright lights - to a younger version of herself looking at a book. She goes to the window and gazes up at the moon with a smile.

This is actually a fabulous transition to the opening credits, which begin with a moon.

After the song, Usagi and her mother are having an argument, while her brother eats breakfast under the kitchen table. Usagi declares that she's fed up with her mother - who then replies that if Usagi is going to be like that, she can do all of the cooking and cleaning herself.
Usagi is speechless at that, and storms off in a huff. Her mother won that round.
Neither her brother nor her mother seem surprised.

In her bedroom, Usagi stuffs a bunch of clothes and things into a duffle bag. She's fed up.
Luna asks what this fight was about.
With dramatic music, and dramatic lighting Usagi reveals just why she cannot stand her mother: One of them wanted to add cheese to their breakfast and one didn't.
Luna sighs. It seems that she's used to this. When she asks Usagi where she's going to go, the girl stops. She hadn't thought of that.

She ends up at Crown, of course, but... it's not Motoki working the front desk - it's Mamoru. She flashes back to the scene in the house of mirrors back in Act 7. She asks what he's doing there, but Motoki answers. He has to run some errands, so Mamoru is going to hold down the shop while he's gone.
She can't stay there with *him* there, so she heads out again. Naru isn't home, Ami's mom is home sleeping. Makoto is... rearranging her room with a mallet.
Usagi is running out of places to go. All she has left is Rei's temple.
But she figures Rei will probably yell at her...
Still, she goes there anyway.
She arrives at the temple to see Rei giving directions to a little girl. The girl takes some paper and heads off. Usagi thinks that Rei looks busy, and is about to leave.
But Rei, perceptive as always, asks if Usagi had a fight with her parents and is running away. Rei knows all about fighting with her parents - as we learned in Act Eight. Rei invites Usagi to stay and help her at the temple.

They are hosting a "Picture Story" at the temple - the story of Princess Kaguya, the moon princess. It's a pretty cool legend actually. Anyway, Rei asks Usagi to help her color in some drawings.

Luna doesn't know the story, so Usagi tells it. A girl was born from a bamboo shoot and she lived with an elderly couple, but since she was a Moon Princess she had to return to the moon when she grew up.
Luna looks thoughtful while Usagi goes on about how she would love to visit the Moon Kingdom. She says that it would have to be better then her home, with her mother... maybe her mother isn't her real mother at all.
Luna comments that this might be more than just a fantasy of Usagi's, but she quickly assures Usagi and Rei that she was just thinking out loud.
Rei says that she always believed in the Moon Kingdom... her mother used to read her that story all the time. Since she loves the story so much, it's important that this event goes off smoothly.

In the Dark Kingdom, Nephrite is groveling before Beryl. He still hasn't found the Crystal. She assures him that as long as he's trying, it's enough for her. He promises that he will find the MSC. That decided, she asks him what Zoisite is up to. He says, somewhat scornfully, that Zoisite wants to finish his Requiem before he kills the Princess... (never mind that he hasn't found her yet...) Then Nephrite calls Zoisite creepy.
Beryl decides that she wants to try Soul Flight. (Everybody's doing it...)

The camera pans up to Zoisite's room, where pages of rainbow colored sheet music are scattered everywhere. He writes a page and then tosses it to the floor. Either he's not pleased with it, or that's what he does with finished pages... He'll have a fun time getting those back in order. There are also some cool shots of him in this scene.

Back at Rei's temple, Usagi is recounting her fight with her mother. She wanted to use cheese, but her mother wanted to make pudding. Rei lets Usagi prattle on, ignoring her while she paints.
But Usagi notices that the last scene is missing. Rei explains that one of the girls is drawing it.
The little girl wants to be the Princess Kaguya, because she thinks that her dead mother is on the moon. Rei trails off, flashbacking to when she was little, and she believed that too.
The little girl - Erika returns, upset. She messed up the painting a little. But Super-Rei-chan can fix it with a little black paint.
She tells Erika that her mother is on the Moon too. Their mothers are probably friends. Rei also tells her that there is a bunny on the moon that make rice cakes. This is a joke from the anime.
Usagi feels horrible. Here she was going on about how mean her mother was when Rei's mother is dead.

Zoisite has finished his masterpiece - a Requiem for a Princess. He sets the last sheet of rainbow paper on the floor, and starts to play.
Wind swirls the sheet music around, teasing at Zoisite's hair.
The paper forms a youma... which starts to sing.
It's voice travels all through the city, reaching Rei's temple. The picture of Princess Kaguya bursts into flames. From Rei's expression, that is no good.

Makoto is rearranging her room - sans mallet - and watching TV. The princess of Estoa gets out of her limo, hears the youma music, and faints. A princess doll bursts into flames. At the library, a fairy tale book with a picture of a princess starts on fire as well. The little girl reading it does not have a convincing reaction, but it's enough to make Ami take notice.
Back at the temple, Erika nearly faints.

Usagi comes running it. Now all of the senshi know that a youma is on the lose. Luna figures it out, someone is after a princess... so it's taking out everything princess related. Erika thinks that she's a princess, so it hits her as well.

Usagi and Rei run outside and Make Up. I like how they do it split screen.
The two senshi find the youma standing on top of a building, so Moon throws her tiara at it. It falls off the building, but manages to get up just in time to hear the Speech from Mars and Moon.

The youma has a pretty cool attack - it blasts the senshi with animated rainbow musical notes. Mars takes one full in the bow... err.. chest and is out for the count.
Mercury and Jupiter arrive just in time, jumping and twirling to avoid the music, but it's no good. They get knocked out as well.
On the advice of Luna, Sailor Moon pulls out her wand and puts all of her power into saving everyone.
The wand glows with a purple light as it eats all of the musical notes... and then makes the youma explode. It also revives the other senshi, and undoes all of the damage to the various princesses - dolls, pictures and people. Sailor Moon sinks to the ground, glad it's all over.
Or is it? The sound of piano music puts all of them on the alert.

Queen Beryl has arrived. She's mildly surprised that Sailor Moon doesn't remember her, but then again, they are all different from how they were in the past. She tells the senshi that they are all that is left from the destroyed Moon Kingdom. Beryl does a "we will take over the world" speech and then vanishes with some evil laughter, leaving behind some very confused senshi.

Luna reveals that the princess that they've been looking for is actually the Princess of the Moon - as in the Moon in the sky. Luna says that she's from the moon, and the senshi are the four guardians of the moon. Considering that one of them is Sailor Moon, I don't understand why they are so shocked by this.

Erika is reading the story of Princess Kaguya... the show at the temple is a success. The four girls stand in the back, quietly thinking about what Luna said. Rei says it seems like a fantasy, and yet... she believes it.
Tears roll down Usagi's cheeks. She is from the moon - her mother isn't really her mother. Usagi isn't sure who she is anymore.
Luna assures her that her mother really is her mother, and that Usagi is just Usagi. And now, says Luna, it's time to go home.
Rei looks skyward. She used to think her mother was on the moon... now she knows why she felt that way.

Usagi runs home, into the kitchen, where she hugs her mother tightly. All is right in the Tsukino family once again.
Luna is worried. Their enemy is getting stronger - will the Princess be alright?

Meanwhile, pop idol Anio Minako returns to Japan from where she was in London.
Zoisite seems to be in a sort of a trance - and to demonstrate this, he speak with reverb. He begins the climax.
Minako looks up, hearing the phantom music. A truck, with Zoisite's music on the radio, is out of control, careening towards her.
