The Midnight Train Crossing

PGSM - Act Four

Usagi is moping at Crown. Why won't Rei be her friend? - but worse than that, why does Rei hate kareoke?
Luna says that somehow they'll get through to Rei. All of the senshi need to fight together. And in her eternal optimism, Usagi knows that someday, she and Rei will be friends.
But, let's not forget about the all important task of finding the Princess and the MSC. (Mystical Silver Crystal y'know :))

As I mentioned before, Beryl is upset at the arrival of the new senshi. But she realizes that if they wake the princess (She must be sleeping then) then the princess will probably have the MSC.
Jadiete volunteers, but Beryl shoots him down, saying she's not happy with him - after all he hasn't been too successful at gathering energy. But then she sweetens it a bit, telling him that if he loves her, he'll try to be useful to her. That's just mildly creepy Beryl...
She summons the second of the shitennou - Nephrite. He enters and one of his first actions is to demonstrate that there is some sibling rivalry between him and Jadiete.

On a very large TV screen outside, the news announces that someone famous is hosting a party, at which time there will be a display of an impressive jewel called "the Mystical Blue Crystal." Luna seems to think that's close enough. Usagi is doubtful at first - silver is not blue- but it doesn't take much to bring her around, especially since she'll get to sneak into a party.
While she is flailing about, she manages to smack the yet-to-be-named-Mamoru in the chest.
The girls discuss how strange he is.
While he walks off, he comes to the same conclusion that the girls have - that the Mystical Blue Crystal could be the MSC.
Nephrite is watching too, and he gets the same idea. He doesn't have much of a surprise, it seems that shocking red hair isn't unusual. Rei is the only one to notice him, and that's because of his aura, not his hair.
Usagi and Ami come over to Rei - Usagi wants to work together but once again, Rei says she'd rather work alone. She always does things along. She doesn't need friends. Silly Rei-chan.

Usagi is sad, until she remembers the party. Then she pulls out her phone and starts trying on dresses... Interestingly, none of the cars driving past take any notice of her randomly changing close in flashes of light. Must happen all the time here.

But the party turns out to be a Halloween Party. Ami is dressed as a rather cute kitty-girl. Usagi comes dressed in a bear costume she can hardly walk in, and Rei comes... as a priestess with a mask.
Ami has by far the best costume.
Usagi runs around excitedly, while Ami is a bit more reserved - not that that's a surprise

The birthday girl, who's name passes by too quickly for me to catch, reminds her security guards to keep close watch on the crystal. But the security guards don't seem to be too good at their job, because they don't see Nephrite in his bright red outfit hiding behind a plant.
He sets the traditional youma creating rock down in said plant and creates a youma that looks a lot like an ear of corn. (At least it's better than airplane-head!)

Usagi suddenly realizes that she has lost Ami, and as she goes off to look for her she trips and falls into Tuxedo Kamen. He came to the costume party dressed as... himself.
She gets little hearts in her eyes. (Really she does I think it's kinda cute)
Tux is mildly creeped out that this bear is cuddling up against him.

Ami has shed her costume and is sneaking around in the hallway where corn-head was last scene. Something grabs her from behind - it's... Rei!
Rei says that she senses a youma, and once Ami's heart rate returns to normal, she agrees.
Ami and Rei have a cute chat as they realize that they have something in common - neither are too comfortable with having friends quite yet.
And so, Water and Fire form a shaky alliance - not quite a friendship yet.

Back at the party, Usagi-the-bear is still cuddling Tux. But she can't come up with anything to say to him, so he just leaves, leaving her a sad Usagi.

Ami and Rei hear a scream and run to discover that the corn-head youma has attacked the birthday girl and her security guard. The two senshi Make Up and Mars tries to blast it with fire. (To make popcorn) but the youma splits into two and she misses. One of the youma goes after Mercury, while the other attacks Mars. Luna sees and calls for Usagi - who comes running.

While the theme song plays in the background, Usagi rushes into the rescue, all set to transform, when... the zipper on the bear costume gets stuck. I guess if she can't reach her brooch, she can't transform.
Mars manages to break out of the vines, and she and Usagi hurry out of the room.
At which point Mars has a really good line: "I thought you were going to save me"
Usagi: That's what I wanted to do!
They have a cute scene where Usagi says "It's good to have friends isn't it?"
Rei sorta has a "Yeeeeah I guess you're right" expression, when suddenly she remembers Ami.

Somehow, Mercury and both Youma reached the roof. All dramatic fight scenes need to take place somewhere high. Usagi Makes Up.
The three do their lines and pose. And the two youma are like "Uh..." And then they decide to make a third one.
Mars comes up with her second attack: Akuryo Taisan where she throws flaming cards (The kind with spells on them). It takes them a little while to realize that if they hurt one, the other two will heal it.
So they all attack at once - in a spiffy split screen shot. Alas it doesn't work.
So they try again. And again it doesn't work.
So time for more spinning and jumping and "Ha"-ing

Taking a break from the fight, they hear the music from the party - the song C'est La Vie from Aino Minako, who was introduced (sorta) in Act Two.
By moving and attacking to the beat of the song, the three girls are able to attack at *exactly* the same time, thus destroying the youma.
Yay the power of music. (Continuing on the musical theme of the show)
After they defeat the youma, Rei bounces excitedly, and then gets all embarrassed. It's cute.

Nephrite has gotten the blue crystal, and is quite happy about that - although the senshi aren't.
Tuxedo Mask has finally made it up to the roof and he and Nephrite fight over the box. I think that it's not fair that Tux has a cane and Nephrite doesn't, but they seem to be evenly matched.
In the fight, the box with the crystal goes flying. Usagi rushes to catch it, and falls right off the building.
Tux tries to grab her, but falls over too.

That's when we discover another power of the Moon wand - it can create a bubble around falling people so that they fall more slowly. Who knew?
Ami nearly passes out with relief, and Nephrite storms off in a huff, with a dramatic cape swish.
Floating in a bubble is the best time to break out into song, so Moon does, resuming the song C'est La Vie. They touch down neatly.
The current score: Tux has two saves, and Moon has one.

While the senshi reunite, glad that Moon did not go splat, Tux investigates the box. The Mystical Blue Crystal is blue alright, it's not the MSC.
Luna asks who he is, but he says he doesn't know. (Sure he does, he's Tuxedo Kamen) but since they're both looking for the MSC, they might be enemies. With that, he exits, with a dramatic cape swish of his own.

The three girls head home - now Rei is part of their group, although she still doesn't like karaoke. She wasn't making that one up. She says she doesn't want to go to a karaoke party, but she'll go to one without singing.
Usagi is quite happy, it's been a good day.
But Luna is worried. Just who is this Tuxedo Kamen?
