First Practicum Report

Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa

Teacher Candidate: Marina Bresba

Grade: Gifted 1/2

Marina has shown an overall awareness of how children learn and develop in her gifted grade ˝ placement. It was apparent during my visits that she has a keen understanding of the key principles of learning processes. Marina’s lessons and activities in social studies, science and language arts were designed to match students’ developmental levels, and to promote their personal and academic growth. Furthermore, she demonstrated overall compassion and respect for the students in her placement. The interactions with the students were positive, nurturing, and genuine.

Throughout her placement, Marina demonstrated her ability to shape instructions appropriately to meet the students’ different abilities and ways of learning. For instance, during her science unit on “water” she was aware of and respected individual differences in learning styles, abilities and rates of work when planning and executing her lessons. Marina is also resourceful in adjusting plans to variations in students’ moods, behaviour, or level of understanding. Her lessons clearly demonstrated accurate knowledge of the curriculum content, as well as curricular expectations.

Additionally, Marina provided appropriate classroom management techniques during her placement. She was always very calm and collected, and applied management procedures consistently and effectively.

Overall, Marina is on her way to becoming a very competent practitioner in every respect.
