US
based Guyanese charged with wife’s murder
Guyana-born US citizen Ramdhanie Persaud, called
‘Prackash’ or ‘Prack’, was remanded yesterday by
Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo for allegedly murdering his
wife Bibi Shameena Deen.
The accused appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s
Court.
Persaud will have to return to court on May 9 when the
matter will be transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s
Court.
The accused had turned himself over to police earlier this
week while accompanied by his lawyer, Attorney at Law
Mursaleine Bacchus.
Persaud is alleged to have shot his wife dead on Tuesday
March 20 at their Canefield, East Canje, Berbice home.
Deen, who operated a shop at the home, was found with bullet
wounds to the head and chest.
The couple’s teenage son had allegedly heard his
mother’s cries at around 23:00 hrs but found the bedroom
locked when he tried to go to her assistance.
A postmortem performed revealed that she was shot at close
range in the head and chest. Cause of death was given as
shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries, laceration to
the brain and a fractured skull.
Two months ago, Persaud was placed on one-year bond after he
had been charged for assaulting his wife
