My Thoughts on The Mid-East Problem

The Beginnings of a Movement:

The Zionist movement was created by a man Theodore Herzl. Mr. Herzl, while working as a journalist in France, was confronted with anti-Semitism. As the crowds in France were shouting “Death to the Jews”, Mr. Herzl was forming the opinion that there was no place that Jews could live where anti-Semitism didn’t exist. He began forming the idea of a Jewish state. Mr. Herzl and several wealthy Jews created the World Zionist Organization.

A New Nation is Born:

Theodore Herzl died before seeing the creation of a Jewish State, however, the Zionist movement continued on…

After World War I the British and French split control of the Arab world between their 2 countries. Eventually all of the Arab states became independent nations, with the exception of Palestine. The British created the Balfour Declaration which called for the creation of a Jewish Homeland and allowed for Jewish immigration to Palestine and to encourage Jewish settlement in Palestine. The creation of a Jewish homeland was accepted by the League of Nations. Needless to say, the Arabs were against this and fought with the Jews who settled within Palestine.

The British, through the Peel Commission, attempted to separate Palestine into 2 separate states with the Jews in one part and the Palestinians in another. While the Jewish settlers agreed to this, the Palestinians were against this. Thus the fighting continued. The British attempted to restrict Jewish settlement into the area. The Jewish settlers protested this and fought with the British. At the end of World War II, the British decided to give up it’s control over Palestine and handed it over to the United Nations which separated Palestine into 2 states, that of Israel and the other Arab and the state of Israel was born.

My Thoughts:

There could never be Peace in the Middle East as long as the United Nations fails to stand by it’s creation of Israel as a sovereign nation. Everyone looks to the United States to come up with a solution to the problem, but there is nothing that the United States can do to fix it. The problem can only be solved by the United Nations who now refuses to accept Israel as a sovereign nation even though it created Israel. Thus, there will always be war. Separating the land into 2 states will also not work. How do I know this? It’s already been tried. In order for peace to exist, both parties need to want it! In this case, only one party wants peace. The other party wants it’s land back.

Conclusion… The United Nations needs to fix this problem. Either accept Israel as a state and work towards compromise, or don’t accept Israel as a state and accept a war until one side wins. Right now, the UN is opting on War.
