Internet Scavenger
Hunt

Introduction:
For the next several days in
class, you will be working online to research information about Geometry.
You may use any search engines or websites to obtain this information.
This scavenger hunt will send you on an
Internet adventure to find a wide variety of geometry topics and information.
Are you up for the challenge? Well what are you waiting for? Lets get
started....
Task:
You will be using a variety of
website search engines to find the necessary
information to find the answers to the Internet Scavenger Hunt. The amount
of answers you get correct will determine your grade. Each question will
state what it's point value is. Pay close attention to this, for if a
question is giving you trouble that is not worth many points, you should skip it
and come back to it later. As you go through the Scavenger Hunt, you
should keep an estimate of your accumulated points. I also may ask you to
cite the website that you got the information from. In this case, simply
copy and paste the address into the location that I ask.
Process:
At the computer:
- Familiarize yourself with some of
the search engines listed in this link.
- Print out the list of
Scavenger Hunt Items. (Note: Some
items can be found on the Internet while others cannot.)
- Use the suggested search engines or
other search engines to locate various items on the list, paying attention to
point values and the
Point Scale to estimate
your grade. You actual grade will be determined by me.
- As you find useful web sites, be
sure to copy the URL for future reference. Check the site for answers to
scavenger hunt questions or for pictures/ information that you need to print
out.
- When you have found enough items for
the grade you desire, go to the Scavenger Hunt Item Survey.
This is a form for you to report your findings. When it is completely filled
out, click on the Submit button and it will be e-mailed to me. Be sure to
include in the Comments section of the Survey a brief note if you will also be
turning in Non-Internet items.
- Feel free to
e-mail me
if you have a question while working on the Scavenger Hunt outside of class. I
will try to reply as soon as possible.
In the classroom:
- Before going to the Computer Lab, we
will review in class the basics of this assignment.
- Once in the Lab, these projects are
to be completed individually. You may NOT share answers with others.
Any behavior that implies cheating will be considered exactly that, and NO
CREDIT will be given for the project. For questions, ask the teacher.
Some of the items will be more difficult to find than others. Be patient
and skip difficult ones to make sure you have allotted your time wisely.
- The majority of the
Scavenger Hunt items
can be found on the Internet, however those items which cannot must be
submitted to me in a folder. Do not hand in loose items. All loose items that
are not standard paper size must be mounted on 81/2 x 11 paper. Also,
please put your name on your folder and anything that goes inside. I
would recommend either a pocket folder or a report-style cover that has the
metal spokes to secure items.
- Happy Surfing!
