| One of the first things you encounter on the trail is Moonshiner's Cave. There's not much to see in there. | |
| Hello Friend! There are a lot of interesting critters to meet along the way | |
| This is what a lot of the rock face looks like as you walk along side it. Some of it has sheered off and the fallen rock still remains below. | |
| Parts of the trail can be quite tricky. Not reccomended for large people, or very tall. Unfortunately, our friend Eric is very tall and hit his head on a rock. | |
| Looking up at Chimney Rock. We finally made it! | |
![]() | Here I am sitting at the very peak of Chimney Rock, looking at Lake Lure, Bat Cave, and the trees below. |
| Graham and I fool around on top of Chimney Rock | |
| This is a Five-Lined Skink. We saw several on our hike. I also spotted some type of salamander at another part of the trail. | |
| Eric's daughter, Caroline, is deathly afraid of snakes. This one wanted nothing to do with us, though. | |
![]() | This is an area above the waterfall called Nature's Showerbath. You could climb underneath the fall here, but it's really gross under there, so I didn't. |
![]() | Enjoying the cool air |
![]() | "Take the picture! I'm slipping!" |
| Graham and Lauren | |
![]() | The area where Shelby is sitting is a huge crack in these rocks, and icy cold air is blasting out from between them. We encountered a few of these areas along the way, but this one was the strongest. |
| A view of the waterfall from Inspiration Point | |
![]() | This probably looks more interesting than it is. Inside are some benches. Just about everywhere there is a surface for it, there is graffiti. This rest area was no exception. It makes me wonder what kind of person would take this strenuous hike equipt with spray cans and paint! |
![]() | After we had finished the trail, we went back to the gift shop area where this is an elevator that runs to the top of Chimney Rock. The passageway to it is lit like this and looks pretty creepy. :) Goodbye Chimney Rock! |
