When exploring web sites you have to be aware of where the information is coming from.  The best web resources come from addresses that have edu (school) or gov (government) on the end.  The information provided is more likely to be reliable.  With other addresses explore the websites to see if they provide where the information came from.  Always remember when quoting information you have to site where the quote comes from.

To help you find websites www.google.com is always a good starting point.  When entering a search term remember, simple is better.  Typing in a really long statement probably won’t get you the information you want.  When Google searches it picks out the most prominent key words given.  Explore the about or contact links within a web site because that will give information about the web site.  Explore the links that web sites provide. They may be of help to you.  Here are some web sites that can get you started.

This web page is provided by Towson University and was done by Dawnelle Loiselle.  The resources come for books that are italicized within the paper.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia the free encyclopedia, last updated May 29, 2006.

I provided this website because it has an x-ray of a Chinese women’s foot that had been bound.  You have to be careful when using Wikipedia because anybody can edit the information at any time.  The edited information may not be factual.  It is always good to double check the information provided by Wikipedia.

 Australian Museum Online

This site provides a page on foot binding and a picture.

Bounded Patriarchy: The Story of Foodbinding

by Julia Linzey.

This web site was constructed by Julia Linzey.  She provides pictures, a map of the area, and information on foot binding.  She provides a page of references.

One Thousand Years of Chinese Footbinding: Its Origins, Popularity and Demise

by Marie Vento, March 7, 1998, Term Paper.

This web page is provided by Brooklyn College and is a term paper done by a student Marie Vento in March of 1998.  I included this site because it gives a long bibliography and they could be a source of more reading.

Dynasty Antiques

copyright 2000

This web site sells antiques from the Qing Dynasty.  They have a selection of lotus shoes.  I provides this page so that you could get a sense of what the shoes looked like and how small they are.  The shoes themselves are beautiful, but they needed shoes to beautifully cover the harsh reality of what their feet looked like.

Tales of the Banko

copyright January 1998

I included this web page because it has a testimony from Madame Tsui, who was then in her 80's and had bound feet.  It also describes how lotus shoes were made.

Morbid Outlook

by Mistress McCutchan, copyright August 1992.

This is a web site magazine and the article Lotus Foot was written by Desiree Krauss. This whole web site is interesting to explore.
