March 13, 2007

The Bedford Speedway is pleased to announce three new division sponsors for this season, and welcome back a returning sponsor. The three newly named divisions will be the Miller Auto Parts & Supply Super Late Models, the Bedford Valley Petroleum Limited Late Models, and the Ritchey Sandblasting Hobby Stocks. TC Race Cars will be back for a second year, sponsoring the TC Race Cars Street Stocks.

Henry Hillegass, owner the The New Hairline, and long time fan of the week sponsor will again sponsor the New Hairline Fan of the Week drawing. Each week throughout the racing season, a name will be drawn randomly to receive one free general admission ticket. You can enter by clicking on the New Hairline Fan of the Week logo at the lower left hand side of this page. Enter your information, and your name will automatically be entered for the entire season. There is no need to enter more than once, and extra entries will be discarded. You must supply a valid e-mail address to be eligible. At the bottom of the entry form is a place to vote for your favorite driver. The driver recieving the most votes will receive an award at the season ending banquet from the New Hairline.

The 2007 season will kick off on Friday, April 20th, with hot laps starting at 6:30pm. The event will be the first point race of the season for all four divisions.

Attention all Street Stock Racers

Beginning with the 2007 season, we will allow the use of a Crate Engine in the Street Stock class. The engine has to be GM part # 88958602 which can be purchased through any GM Performance Parts dealer or some racing parts warehouses. These engines have factory seals that are designed to prevent the engine from being tampered with. The seals also have an encrypted code which prevents counterfeiting of the seal itself.
Due to the low initial cost of the engine and the possibility of tampering, we will not allow these engines to be rebuilt. Should the engine need a minor repair, we will consider it, but must be advised beforehand plus the engine will need to be inspected and resealed by Todd Bechtel (Bedford Technical Director).
The following rules will apply to those cars using the crate engine:

1. The crate engine must be GM pn. 88958602. No others will be acceptable.
2. Any car equipped with the crate engine must weigh a minimum of 3000 lbs.
3. Cars equipped with a crate engine must use Holley pn. 80541-1 four-barrel carburetor. Absolutely, no modifications to the carburetor with exception of jet changes.
4. Crate engines will not be rebuilt. Factory seals must not be broken or tampered with. This will be strictly enforced and will include verification of the factory encrypted bolts.
5. All other Street Stock class rules apply.

If you have any questions, please contact Todd Bechtel at 814-793-3478.

Located in Bedford, Pennsylvania, the Bedford Speedway is the oldest active dirt track in the state.  Its first race was on September 4th, 1936, and the AAA sanctioned sprint car race was won by Billy Winn. Since that first race, the track has operated nearly every year for the past 71 years.  Some of the greatest names in the history of auto racing have competed, attended, or worked at the historic site.  Mario Andretti, Chris Economaki, Ted Horn, Duane Carter, Bill Wimble, Johnny Parsons, and Paul Russo are a just a few.  Bedford was once part of the road to Indy, with AAA and URC sprint car racing dominating the scene for much of Bedford's early days.  The famed 30x90 super modifieds and sprint cars were the attraction in the sixties and early seventies.  Stockcar racing became the weekly attraction in 1974, and continues to this day.  Currently, Bedford is considered one of the premiere race tracks in the area, with Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks competing every Friday night.  Several special events are held each season, including the MACS Super Late Models, the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars, and the PA Sprint Car Speedweek Series.  Bedford Speedway has been, and will continue to be an important phase in one of this nation’s most exciting and prolific sports.
