Immerse yourself in the gourmet delights of Sabah! With as many as 54 distinctive language groups and around 32 indigenous ethnic groups, Sabahans make the best of the abundance of nature’s wealth, such as its fresh seafood and high quality bird’s nests (a high-valued delicacy).

There are many restaurants offering varieties of cuisines ranging from local favorites to international fine dining. Seafood is available all year round and served in various assortments. Sample also our local authentic mouth-watering traditional specialties. Due to exclusivity, a 24-hour advance order is required for the bird’s nest soup.

Most of the local traditional cuisine especially by the Kadazandusun is simplistic by nature. The preparations are very basic (usually by boiling, simmering and grilling). Frying technique is an uncommon method. Therefore this explains why their dishes are almost never oily. Featured below are some of the favorite local Sabahan delights of the Kadazandusun people and the Lotud people of Tuaran district.

Nonsoom Bambangan (preserved Bambangan fruit)
This is a concoction of half ripe bambangan fruit with finely grated bambangan seeds and salts that’s preserved in a tightly covered jar for 7 to 10 days. It is delicious when taken with daily meals. Its salty and deliciously sour taste is very appetizing!

Hinava Sada Tongii (Tuna Hinava with lime juice)
A scrumptious tangy dish of finely sliced tuna, bitter gourd, ginger, shallots, chillis, grated bambangan seed and lime juice served on all occasions from wedding to any regular family gatherings. This is a must-try local cuisine!

Linampahan Balatung Om Kokogis (Braised longbeans with clams)
This is another classical example of simple yet delicious local cuisine where the preparation method involving boiling of longbeans with water and clams and a dash of lime juice before serving. Its simply mouth-watering!
