The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Plaza in Guaymas, Sonora, México.

The John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza and Monument was installed by the Port City and County of Guaymas, Sonora, México, in the mid 1960's, in conmemoration of the 35th. USA President's heritage.

Back then the Plaza had a monument with a beautiful John F. Kennedy's bronze bust, looking South to the Guaymas Bay. The Monument also had a bronze Memorial Plate with the dates of birth and death of John F. Kennedy.

In 1986 both the bronze bust and plate were stollen and up to today (March 2006) still are the remainings of the monument.

Everybody in Guaymas know the place as the Kennedy Plaza, even that there are no bust nor plate, but the plaza looks abandoned and neglected by the City Government and there are no plans for rebuilding the plaza nor restoring the monument.

Besides a new bronze bust and memorial plate, the Kennedy Plaza needs some restoration itself: The trees are outgrown and need to be trimmed and cleaned; The ground today is four inches below streets level, thus it needs to fill up to avoid flooding when raining, and the Plaza needs more lights.

Since neither the City nor County Governments of Guaymas have the plans nor the budget to improve The Kennedy Plaza, I'm calling for the help of our comunity to restore the plaza and the monument.

Please feel free to post your feedback in our Bolletin Board and inform us how you can help with this project.

Best Regards:

Melitón "Mel" Martinez
