In January 1993, when Ben was 13 years old, Ben came into our lives as a foster child. When he was 17 years we adopted him. Ben caused a lot of problems for his teachers when he was in year 9 so we decided to send him to a Christian school with the hope that the stricter discipline would help him finish year 10. At enrolment, the Principle asked us to attend church so we would have a better understanding of the school’s teaching. We took Ben to church. He continued going to church and became a Christian long after we stopped going. After Ben left school he took up a job, but sadly this didn’t last long. He became involved in the drug scene and eventually we asked him to leave home as he did not obey our rules. In 1999 my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a Christian, we could not understand how this could happen to her, she was one of God’s children. |
Colin and I started attending a local church. We attended an Alpha Course and finally understood the true meaning of being a Christian. During all this time Ben would come home; we helped him, fed him and clothed him. Unbeknown to us he continued his relationship with Jesus. In January 2000 Ben decided to end his life. He was in a lot of trouble with the law and was very low. Thank goodness for the belief we learnt in that short period of time when we became Christians. Ben asked God’s forgiveness for all he had done and for what he was about to do. We know Ben is safe in the arms of Jesus our Saviour. My sister has been given the all clear on her breast cancer. Jesus carried us through those difficult times and we know that through him we are forgiven and have eternal life. Gail Campbell. NSW. Australia. Gail, can be contacted here about this article. |
