CALIFORNIA COASTAL WALKING

Mendocino

Highway 1 between Bodega Bay and Fort Bragg offers stunning seaside scenery as well as wonderful opportunities for hikers, campers, anglers, and photographers.

The Mendocino coast has its own kind of sleepy beauty -- emerald forests, ocean mists, blue-green water, white surf, the Pacific ocean, weathered redwood barns, grazing sheep, and seals. The whole coast is so scenic that move crews and tourists flock to this stretch of coast.

Wonderful vineyards hug both sides of the road to Mendocino. Although not widely known, Anderson Valley winvards offer wonderful wines and are readily available in restaurants and stores in the area.

The quaint town of Mendocino is very quit and does a thriving tourist trade. It looks just like a New England fishing village, but isn't one -- the streets are too wide and straight, and the houses are set apart and don't have shutters.

Fort Bragg is a blue-colored town with quaint shops cafes. The town got its start as part of the Mendocino Indian Reservation, and then became a military port. The historic downtown section has antique shops, art galleries, restaurants, and hostelries.
