Big Sur

Highway 1 south of Carmel, the Cabrillo Highway, is one of America's great scenic roads. It is a mix of high cliffs, jagged mountains, grassy field of wildflowers, redwoods, and streams.

The highway was completed in 1937.  The drive from Carmel takes about an hour along a road clinging to the face of the mountains.
