Ista's Weyrlings
Week 2
OOC
- If you don't have your description set to include short hair and the Weyrling uniform (orange tops, black bottoms), get on that ASAP! And don't forget to @send *wlm with times that would generally be good for you to attend lessons.
- It's time to set your strap descs! To do so, type '@straps <dragon dbref #> is <strap description>'.
IC
You will be choosing strips of leather that are strong, and that are suitable to you and your dragon. Make sure there are no imperfections in the leather; the straps are there to keep you firmly on your dragon, and if they break, there could be an issue.
ICly, you would have learned leatherworking over the course of candidacy, so working with the awl and whatnot should be at least familiar to you.
Exercise those dragons! Next week, you'll be riding them for the first time (on the ground), so they need to be good and strong. Shoulders and wings especially should be exercised.
You are restricted to the barracks, the pool, and the three bowls (Northeastern, Central, Southeastern). Trips to the living caverns for food are permitted, but don't spend too much time there. You go there to eat, and then you get back to your lifemate.
Don't forget about oiling, bathing, and feeding. Your dragon is still growing at an alarming rate, and you want to keep him or her in top condition, with a good colour and a good, un-cracked hide.
Some notes on straps:
Straps are basically seat belts for your dragon. They will attach around your dragon's neck, and have buckles to attach to a belt that you will wear. A secondary set of straps will be required for transporting passengers, which will be a major job for you Weyrlings once your dragons are bigger. The straps should not only be strong, they should also be comfortable for your dragon. The stitches should be hammered flat to avoid bothering your lifemate's hide. You can get dyed straps, but make sure they've been dyed by a professional. Remember, you don't want to do anything to the leather that will weaken it.
