I have completed my Master degree in Statistics from Indian Statistical Institute, the most premier institution in India for research and study in Statistics and Mathematics. Currently, I want to pursue my doctoral degree in Statistics from your esteemed university.
So far my background is concerned; I was born in a middle class family with sound education and culture. My father is a teacher of mathematics. In my earliest childhood, before joining school, by the guidance of my father, I developed a logical brain and a flair for mathematics. I did my schooling from a Bengali medium school. I passed secondary examination in 1998 securing 99% marks in Mathematics and stood 3rd in my district .I also took a special additional paper of mathematics and scored high marks in that paper too. In my higher secondary level, I joined Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission residential College and took Statistics as one of my subjects. Here, I got an advanced exposure to statistics from an excellent set of renowned professors. In 2000, I successfully completed my 12th standard by securing 100% marks in Mathematics and more than 90% in Statistics. In this period, the beauty of Statistics, applications of Statistical models in real life enticed me and frankly speaking I was in love with statistics. Despite qualifying for Computer engineering education, I selected statistics as my subject and took readmission in the same college with statistics honours. By my indomitable spirit and immense enthusiasm, I started going into the depth of statistics and consequently in the year 2003, I passed B.Sc honours exam securing 4th position in Calcutta University. The same year, I got the most prestigious Ramakrishna Mission Special award for securing highest marks in honours among all students of Ramakrishna Mission throughout the country. A real turning point of my life came when I got through Indian Statistical institute’s entrance test in 2003.I took admission in the Delhi center of the Institute as a master degree student .On successful completion of the first year, I came to Calcutta center of the Institute. In two years master degree course, apart from other courses, I specially got interest in linear model, Design of Experiments, Statistical inference and Regression Analysis. `Among the Mathematics courses, Real analysis and Measure Theory were my favorites. While in college, I gave three seminar lectures and each of them was ranked highly by the faculty with appreciation galore. The topics were 1) Application of probabilistic models in real life 2) Statistics in genetics 3) Robustness in Statistical Inference. In my final year in ISI, I did a project on “Grobner’s basis and statistics”. I planned to apply for US universities in 2005 only but financial problems forced me to join MarketRx India private Limited” as a Statistical Analyst. Here in real life project, I applied Linear models, Nonlinear models, Regression techniques and was astonished by observing how nicely those models fit real life data, Here I got fully trained in SAS,MS Excel, MS access, SPSS. Having done a rigorous work in both theoretical and applied statistics and having a good skill in programming, now I think I am in a position to start career as a research student , as it was my long cherished desire. I think yours is the best place that would suit my interests well. If you kindly give me a chance, it will be the best opportunity for me. Thanks for considering my candidature as a prospective graduate student. (Kiranmoy Das) |
